Singer-songwriter Liam Higgins returns with Through The Wild, a stirring anthem that explores the uncertainty of forging ahead into the unknown.

Liam Higgins – Through The Wild

Originally from Australia and now based in London, Liam Higgins is a rising talent in the independent folk scene. His deep passion for music is immediately evident in his work, showcasing his appreciation for the craft. As a natural multi-instrumentalist, Liam’s sound stands out with soulful themes and raw, heartfelt performances that leave a lasting impact on his listeners.

With an already growing catalogue of releases, Liam Higgins has built an impressive presence, earning hundreds of thousands of streams across platforms. Tracks like Little Love and Children of the Sun have resonated widely, with the latter surpassing half a million plays, a strong showing for the Brisbane-born artist.

Rather than resting on his previous successes, Liam Higgins pushed forward and added Through The Wild to his growing body of work. Describing the song himself, he likens it to driving a full car into the dusk, leaving behind flickering towns with only the open road ahead. That mix of uncertainty and anticipation shapes the emotional core of the track, giving it a striking lyrical presence.

Driven by Liam’s intricate fingerpicking style and expressive vocals, Through The Wild begins as a warm, understated folk tune. As it unfolds, it rises into a sweeping crescendo, enriched by a graceful string section and subtle piano touches that elevate the emotional weight of the songwriting.

“Through The Wild is a compelling folk composition that showcases Liam Higgins’ sharp songwriting, polished production, and a well-balanced performance. It unfolds like a journey, one that’s deeply rewarding in its sound and emotion.”

Fans can catch Liam Higgins live on July 2nd at the Hope and Anchor in London, where he’ll be performing Through The Wild alongside his latest single No Hill I’d Rather Die On. Don’t miss the chance to see him bring these songs to life on stage.

Melbourne’s EXILES are leading the indie rock revival with their urgent and elegant debut album ‘Waiting For Romance’.

EXILES – ‘Waiting For Romance’

EXILES first entered our consciousness when they were featured in our article Next Wave. Five Essential New Indie Rock Bands We highlighted ‘Wasting Away’ a track that immediately took us back to the early 2000’s. Do you remember when The Strokes reinvented cool with their arty arrogance and distorted vocal stylings?

EXILES on Spotiify

Twenty years on, EXILES might be leading the next indie rock revival with their own brand of artful indie. ‘Waiting For Romance’ is their debut album and it sounds exciting.

‘Waiting’ is a big theme of the album and you get the distinct impression that the EXILES boys are over it. On track 3 ‘Waiting For You’ there is a mixture of reluctant patience and frustration. By the time we arrive at track 7 ‘Ceiling’ it’s clear all patience has expired. “I ain’t waiting no more, the time is here, the time is now” The message is clear and this refrain is left ringing in your head.

Track 4 ‘Rinse, Repeat’ is about the frustrations of monotony, it’s EXILES’ ‘Is This It’ moment with its laconic and disinterested style, the track provides a moment of calm elegance before the energy returns on ‘Out Of Reach’. This track feels like a pivotal moment and a change in outlook with the lyrics proclaiming “I’m a new man”. This is quickly followed by the swagger of ‘Star’ it’s their ‘Rock n Roll Star’ moment and just like Oasis before them, the question is not if, but when.

https://www.tiktok.com/@exiles_band/video/7429485148858535175?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7376517696424642081
EXILES on TikTok

Produced by Alex Markwell (The Delta Riggs, Portugal The Man), the album is a gritty blend of post-punk energy. This eight-track debut is long enough to build excitement and short enough to leave you wanting more. Markwell was brought on board to capture and translate the energy and unbridled rock’ n roll of the band’s live performances, and he’s undoubtedly succeeded.

“Just try not to find yourself listening to this album on repeat. EXILES are here to stay.”

Fans of The Strokes or Fontaines DC will find much to love here. Do the world a favour and tell a friend about EXILES ‘Waiting For Romance’ this is too good to remain a secret.

Sending us some Antipodean optimism and retro analogue warmth to counteract this cold spell, Sydney artist Ant Enoch is on a sunny road to his debut EP ‘Big Talk Big Party’.

Introducing his unique concoction of vivid lo-fi pop on his debut single, Television. Enoch combines what he dubs his bare essentials of a piano, vintage drum machine, and slice-of-life vocals with great emotional granularity and places himself smack-bang in the middle of Berlin’s blossoming DIY scene, amidst kindred spirits Okay Kaya, Lover Buffet, and The Zenmenn.

Centred around the true story of watching a friend’s house burn down on the news, Enoch felt inspired to juxtapose this unprecedented experience through music, telling the tale through a journeying melody, upbeat energy and comforting production. It’s an interesting first impression from the Aussie solo-artist, but a good one, as it captures a rare ability of maintaining that emotional connection to a personal, underdog story, but doing so in a way that brings colour to the ear. Catchy but undeniably composed pop can be hard to pinpoint, yet it is something Enoch has delivered rather flawlessly.

An artist that is “forever writing the songbook for life’s big-hearted moments”, the debut project was a happenstance of lockdown, where he spent weeks alone making music after hours in an empty industrial precinct. Fully brought to fruition in collaboration with his tight-knit Berlin community, including co-producers Georgia Potter of Moreton and Riverside Studios resident engineer Julia Borelli (Anyma, Christian Löffler), Enoch explains:

“This song was born out of a very intense writing experience. Seeing myself write 100 songs in 10 days. ‘Television’ began as a small idea, no. 54 of 100. Then Georgia and I expanded on the story itself. We wanted to paint a vivid picture of the underdog. A clear triumphant song that saw people choosing to carry on and choose love as the way through hardship. We started with a basic drum machine pattern and wrote the entire song with the piano, vocals and drum machine. Myka Wallace (drums) came and added that superhuman swagger, furthering the humanity of the song.”

With ten years of performance and touring experience already under his belt from gigging alongside his band Caravãna Sun, Ant Enoch’s intriguing DIY spirit and talent for storytelling kicks off a very exciting solo venture.

“Bound with a wistful charm, ‘Television’ is a quiet but commanding display of Ant Enoch as a solo talent, that we are very excited to see evolve”

AYLA – ‘Fire and Wine’

What comes to mind when you think of fire and wine? A really good bonfire party? A night with an old lover? That terrible incident at the Moulin Rouge? Dangerous substances both, but here AYLA elevates them to glory in her euphoric track, as ‘Fire and Wine’ proves to be the inevitable destination of heartbreaks.

AYLA is an Australian singer-songwriter and self-described ‘pop chameleon’. After a breakout hit with ‘Wish I Was’ she’s released a string of well-received singles, and this is the latest.

‘Fire and Wine’ is a shimmeringly euphoric indie-pop track dedicated to loving, losing and doing it anyway.

The lyrics are rich with nostalgia, opening with ‘We used to walk by the tennis court, then come back at night with the colours gone’. There’s both sorrow – ‘Why’d you have to break my…’ – and regret – ‘I’m sorry for the wasted mornings’ – but they’re balanced out by the sense of joy in the music. There’s a rueful reminiscence for the days of ‘fire and wine’, all delivered with AYLA’s quirky yet well-crafted melodies and distinctive, emotional vocal delivery.

The production centres around a haunting, retro synth line, then builds up with a bubbling bass and sharp beats. But there are nice unexpected moments too – some dreamy piano chords, a wailing electric guitar, frantic strings, keeping the track fresh. There’s also excellent use of backing vocals, creating a lush wall of sound. With influences from pop, country, indie and electro, many listeners will find something to love here and should keep an eye out for an upcoming EP.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, rising artist Kirrilee has unveiled her debut song Rollercoasters. A work exemplifying her soulful songwriting.

Kirrilee – Rollercoasters

For Kirrilee, music has been a key component throughout her life. From a young age, she received training on guitar, piano, and singing, skills that came in very handy when she joined a band in high school.

Some years later, the unique circumstances of the pandemic allowed her to take a DIY approach and learn how to produce and record music on her own. Over the last months, Kirrilee has worked non-stop, releasing songs that denote her refined musical prowess. More specifically, the tracks Loophole and 24/7 (which currently have thousands of streams each) and the melody that started it all, her first single, Rollercoasters.

Produced by the renowned Australian producer Brodie Travers, Rollercoasters is one of those tunes that grabs your attention as soon as you press play. Starting things off with warm synths and Kirrilee’s mesmerising voice, this piece balances her heartfelt songwriting with a fun, upbeat instrumentation which reaches its full potential during the euphoric chorus.

This engaging mixture of indie-pop and synth-pop evokes a heavenly vibe that perfectly reflects the endearing lyrics of love, longing, and self-discovery within this melody, making this bop a compelling and highly satisfying experience that begs to be listened to repeatedly.

“Fun, candid, and catchy, Rollercoasters is an emotionally-charged ride.”

There is no doubt that Kirrilee has made quite a declaration this year. With three successful songs and her debut EP set for release in September, she has carved a path of endless possibilities for her career. Now we just need to wait and see where she’ll take this.

Australian alternative rock band Cosmo Blue delivers a catchy indie gem with ‘Sweet Moments’.

Cosmo Blue – Sweet Moments

Cosmo Blue is an alternative/indie rock band hailing from Sydney, Australia. According to frontman Michael, their sound is “an amalgamation of all things weird and wonderful”. Seemingly inspired by bands like The Strokes, The Police and Arctic Monkeys, the band’s sound should appeal to alt-rock fans everywhere.

From the start, ‘Sweet Moments’ immerses the listeners in a world of pulsating rhythms and bright melodies. At the core of this uptempo indie number lies a punchy bass line and a driving drum beat, forming a solid combo that propels the song forward, with the swirling guitars effortlessly soaring alongside the rhythm. Atop the mix, the confident and engaging vocal performance is simply magnetic.

The band also skilfully incorporates the right touch of synth passages, sprinkling the song with additional spice and enhancing its colour and appeal. These well-crafted electronic elements interweave with the rest of the instrumentation, providing the song with a nice retro-flavoured edge.

“Charming and magnetic, Sweet Moments is a rock-solid indie number with nice touches of nostalgia.”

Cosmo Blue’s solid musicianship and tight cohesion shine through, as each member plays their part and contributes to the song’s pull. The chemistry between the members is palpable, and it’s evident that they are on a collective mission to leave a lasting impression in alternative/indie listening circles.

Elodie Adams shows her vocal range on her bewitching cover of Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box.

Elodie Adams – Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana)

This impressive cover version has become somewhat of a viral sensation for Elodie Adams racking up over 1 million views on Facebook.

Elodie has been classically trained in both opera and violin from the age of 4, and it shows. There is a delicious gothic noir to her style as she effortlessly switches between seductive whispers and glass-shattering high notes. It is hard not to be drawn in by this intimate performance and those pink highlights!

She truly emotes every word, and when you understand she has endured the chronic pain condition Fibromyalgia, which forced her to take a 6-year hiatus from music, you can understand how every word she utters feels like a personal cathartic release.

She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weakI’ve been locked inside your heart-shaped box for weeksI’ve been drawn into your magnet tar pit trapI wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black.
[Kurt Cobain, Nirvana – Heart Shaped Box]

More about Elodie Adams

Elodie began experimenting with songwriting and production as a means to cope with undiagnosed clinical depression and anxiety in her teenage years.

She first rose to prominence in 2014 as the singer/songwriter/producer of the theme tune to the Playstation Game “Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty!”. Elodie cites her influences as rock greats such as Muse & Queen, classical composers such as Bach and uniquely eccentric performers such as Bjork. We’d also throw a little dash of Tori Amos into the mixing pot.

Elodie effortlessly takes these inspirations and combines them with her electrifying string arrangements and soaring, powerhouse vocals to create something all her own.

Elodie is no stranger to cover versions in fact, she is making somewhat of a name for herself with her unique arrangements. Working alongside DJ Nick Jay the duo’s dreamy, high-octane club reworking of the Kate Bush classic ‘Running Up The Hill’ hit the number one spot on the Australian dance charts last year.

Bringing back the blues: Ella Joy releases a sizzling new single, “Beat You at Your Own Game”.

Ella Joy – Beat You at Your Own Game

Showcasing exceptional talent at only nineteen years of age, Australian mixed-rock artist Ella Joy is set to be a very prominent name in the country’s alternative and blues rock scene.

Playing regular gigs around the southeast, Ella Joy is building a loyal fanbase through her bold songwriting and exploration into various genres. Writing and producing all of her own work, she tackles rich universal experiences testament to her youth. A student at the University of the Sunshine Coast, where faculty members include Dr. Andy Ward (Gold Record Winning) and Lachlan Gould (producer for Powderfinger and two-time ARIA award winner), Ella is completely immersing herself in music personally, academically and professionally.

Co-produced by her father, Scott Mathison, Ella Joy gave us an insight into being raised in such a musical household:

“Growing up, I was always the kid who had no idea who any of the popular music artists were, or which song was number one. Dad always had artists like Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix playing throughout the house, we never listened to the radio but rather picked our music from an overfilled CD case. Everyone in my family played an instrument, even my grandfather who as an 83-year old still gigs to this day. I started on violin and flute in school, and it didn’t take long for me to find guitar, seeing as my dad played it religiously”.

“Beat You at Your Own Game” takes a different shape than her previous single, “Never Fascinated”. Moving away from a folk-driven style, the song combines a sultry blues atmosphere and a candid lyrical approach to create a contemporary style still authentic to the blues. Featuring drums by Brett Newman, Ella Joy delves into the age-old experience of being a young person thrown into the real world. Also tackling the topic of narcissism, Ella Joy sings for a whole generation through this revenge-style track.

“An absolute treat for fans of Larkin Poe, Gráinne Duffy and Elles Bailey. Ella Joy is an exciting contemporary rock artist who is not afraid to explore music. Each new release tells us that there is something for everyone in her sound!”
