Following her previously released single ‘Saltwater’ and building anticipation for her live music-art concept, Singaporean artist JESSMO unveils her latest single, ‘How Deep Do We Dive?’

JESSMO – How Deep Do We Dive

Despite her young age, Jessica Tan (known professionally as JESSMO) already boasts extensive experience as a live performer. She has shared her music across some of Europe’s most iconic cities, including London, Amsterdam, Paris, Toulon, Galway, Copenhagen, Malmö, Göttingen, Düsseldorf, and, of course, her native Singapore.

Recognised for her talents as a singer-songwriter and music producer, JESSMO released her debut EP in 2020, Dance It All Out, a project that showcased her electronic-pop sensibilities alongside deeply emotive lyricism. Fast-forward to 2024, and she returns with one of her most compelling and ambitious endeavours yet. It began with the release of Saltwater, a track that forms part of a larger project of the same name, a continuous live music-art concept driven by her songs, layered with hidden meanings and metaphorical depth that make it a truly intriguing experience.

Continuing that journey, JESSMO released How Deep Do We Dive? a track that delivers a mesmerising blend of electronic arrangements designed to create a fully immersive experience. Whether experienced as part of the larger concept project or on its own, the song stands out as a richly rewarding sonic offering, enhanced by hauntingly dark lyrics and emotive vocals that emerge powerfully toward the close.

Clocking in at over six minutes, How Deep Do We Dive? is a deep, immersive electronic voyage, an aural experience that is both thought-provoking and beautifully crafted.

While the single is part of the larger Saltwater concept, available on JESSMO’s official website, its full impact is something best experienced firsthand. Some projects are meant to be felt rather than explained, and JESSMO’s How Deep Do We Dive? is certainly one of them.

Inigo Quintero – ‘Desconocido’

For the non-Spanish speakers in the room, ‘desconocido’ means ‘stranger’. And in Inigo Quintero’s track, this refers to the strangers you become after a relationship ends – the strangest kind of stranger of all, as the shadows of former intimacy melt away. But don’t worry, this tune still manages to retain its euphoria.

Spanish artist Inigo Quintero has had quite the rise. A TikTok viral sensation, his track ‘Si No Estás’ currently has over 600 million Spotify streams. This latest track comes from his debut EP, ‘Es Solo Musica’, or ‘It’s Simply Music’, which is available to stream now.

‘Desconocido’ is a bittersweetly anthemic track with influences of pop and dance, dedicated to heartbreak and regrets.

‘Tú eras todo lo que pedía’ sings Quintero with heartfelt lyrics – ‘you were everything that I wanted’ – but shades of frustration show through too, with lines like, ‘in the end it was going to destroy me’ ,  ‘al final iba a destrozarme’. The main hook ‘que mas da’ (‘what difference does it make?’) is soaring, and delivered in Quintero’s throaty, evocative vocals. The melodies are cleanly crafted with a singer-songwriter edge.

The production combines wistful guitars with echoing piano lines, layering tuneful vocal harmonies with humming synths and a strong kick, making this a big-scale track ripe for festivals and summer car journeys. Fans of modern male artists like Ed Sheeran and George Ezra will find something to enjoy here, and it’s still hooky enough even if your Spanish isn’t up to scratch.

Major Ouf Unveils Their Long-Awaited Debut EP ‘Big Moves n’ Major Oufs’.

Major Ouf – Big Moves n Major Oufs

After tantalizing their fanbase with two impressive singles, Norwegian ensemble Major Ouf is finally unveiling their debut EP, Big Moves n’ Major Oufs. This release builds upon the dreamlike atmospheres showcased in their earlier works, offering listeners an expanded glimpse into their musical universe.

The Norwegian quintet, Major Ouf, have unveiled their debut EP, Big Moves n’ Major Oufs, leading us on a voyage of self-acceptance and love, woven through a captivating blend of genres. But does it meet the expectations? Let’s delve into this sonic odyssey and discover the answer!

Consisting of seven tracks, this EP builds upon the group’s established sound while introducing some refreshing elements. Setting the tone with an upbeat vibe, the instrumental opener “!!” serves as a perfect teaser, seamlessly transitioning to the next track, Focus. This tune maintains the lively rhythm of its predecessor, blending UK house and disco influences. It provides a stark contrast to lead singer Marie’s exploration of insecurities about her talent and self-worth.

Moving on, we encounter the track that propelled the band into the spotlight, 2close4comfort. This composition captivates listeners with its infectious grooves and lush synth textures, blurring the boundary between catchy hooks and captivating production.

A consistent feature of this EP is its profound lyrical introspection, exemplified in the single face2face. The lyrics delve into themes of self-reflection and the struggle to maintain self-recognition. Instrumentally, the track is enhanced by its chilled house arrangements, culminating in a breathtaking display of 80s-inspired guitar work.

Serving as a gratifying midpoint in the EP, the track Elevate fulfils its promise, lifting listeners to delightful auditory heights with its infectious funky guitar riffs.

Following suit, 4walls ventures into a different sonic realm, embracing a more minimalistic melody that eschews intricate instrumentals in favour of a raw, evolving groove with hints of hip-hop influence. The tempo slows, allowing Marie’s verse-like vocal delivery to take centre stage.

Concluding this vibrant EP is Godsend, not only their second single but also one of their most captivating tracks. Marie’s velvety vocals glide softly, creating a soothing atmosphere as the song unfolds from the perspective of a broken individual striving for love.

Lively, emotionally charged, and immensely enjoyable, Big Moves n’ Major Oufs is a delightful treat.

This EP excels at captivating its audience. With honest songwriting, memorable production, visually striking artwork, and above all, a band radiating passion and dedication to their art. There’s every reason to pause and give this record the attention it deserves!

Sonia Ahmed – ‘Mango’

It’d be understandable if you thought of fruit from the title ‘Mango’. And though mangoes are great, and potentially a reference to Sonia Ahmed’s South Asian heritage, the title also serves as a play on words, a cool dismissal to anyone who bothers you while you’re feeling yourself – man, go.

Sonia Ahmed describes herself as a genre-hopping artist who transcends boundaries and celebrates cultural roots. After the success of her debut single ‘Freedom’ in 2023, she’s back with her sophomore release.

‘Mango’ is an infectious electronic track with influences of dance, house, and more, and a positive, uninhibited energy. ‘

Wake up every day like a goddess’, opens Ahmed, speak-singing in a cool-girl drawl. The lyrics are confident and youthful, rap influenced with lines like ‘ain’t nothing change but the Prada, flaws on my face, don’t see nada’. There’s also a sense of pride and expectations in the line ‘Imma give em something to be proud of’.  The ‘do what we want hook’ is particularly memorable, sliding over the beats tipsily, before the whispery ‘mango’ hook drops. Fruit has never been so freeing.

The production combines a sultry synth bass and minor, hypnotic harmonies. Claps set up a dancefloor groove over shuffling, twisting beats, showing influences of grime, house, drum and bass, and more. Somewhere between Dizzee Rascal and M.I.A might be a good reference for Sonia Ahmed. Anyone looking for something fresh to add to their electronic playlists could do worse than putting ‘Mango’ on and seeing how the dancefloor reacts.

Discover Stephen Lind’s irresistibly fun Eurodance track.

Stephen Lind – ‘3, 2, 1’

Sometimes love is a slow, tantalising burn. And sometimes it’s as quick as – well, 3, 2, 1. We’re in the land of instant attraction here with Stephen Lind, where love sparks, dies and relights again all at hyperspeed, set to a racing club tempo. So strap in for ‘3, 2, 1’!

Stephen Lind is a pop artist from Tuscon, Arizona, who now makes his home in LA. While having a long career in the entertainment industry, it is only in recent years that he has focused on his own original music.

“3, 2, 1 is a pounding dance track with a sexy edge, and heavy influences of both eurodance and hyperpop.”

‘You want it like this and that’, sings Lind with no need for innuendo, his barefaced lyrics showing his willingness to submit to a charismatic lover – ‘Everything is yours, I’ll put it in your name’. But there are hints of danger on both sides with lines like ‘we’ll try and break the cycle, this is what you get for falling for a psycho’. The attraction is dark and instant – ‘3, 2, 1 and I want ya’ – but the sting is taken out of the lyrics by the childlike, infectious melodies and Lind’s nonchalant delivery, the heavy tuning being reminiscent of artists like SOPHIE.

The delivery combines pounding beats, pulsing synths and racing arpeggios to create an in-your-face track, reminiscent of acts like Cascada though with modern hyperpop influence as well. At just over 2 minutes long, it’s deliciously short and intense, and ripe for replays and sweaty dances. A hugely fun track from Stephen Lind.

Twenty6 share their positive-message dance pop.

Twenty6 – ‘Chin Up’

Here’s a nice story for you – the inspiration for this track came after Twenty6 met a young boy who was struggling with confidence and bullying at school. Thus, this simple yet effective ode to positivity was born, hopefully helping him and other listeners.

Twenty6 is made up of producer Alex and singer-songwriter Loren – it’s a life partnership as well as a musical one, with the pair now married. Their music has gained them gig slots and support from tastemaker radio stations.

‘Chin Up’ is a heartfelt dance-pop track with easy hooks and a positive life message that can’t help but infect you.

The lyrics would make a good set of affirmations, with lines like ‘you’ve got the world at your feet’ and ‘if they say no you can’t, you say yes I can’. There are some references to some unspecified haters too, saying ‘small things please small minds’, but generally the song serves as a catch-all positive mantra, with the titular hook ‘chin up, hold your head high’ being particularly catchy. The melodies are natural and smooth on the ears, delivered in relaxed yet warm lead vocals.

The production centres around smooth chords and garage-influenced beats. Listen out for lovely bits of melodic detail in the synths, that twinkle and flicker and cascade in melodies. Fans of 2000s dance will find this reminiscent of artists like Daniel Bedingfield and 3 of a Kind, but it’s still a track that doesn’t feel dated and would fit well in many an inspirational advert. One to add to the good vibes playlists.

KRANKk x PORCELAIN – ‘Free’ Club Version

When you run a music blog there are certain artists you like to keep tabs on, and news of a new release genuinely sets the pulse racing. PORCELAIN is one of those artists. Avid readers of Right Chord Music will know we’ve been there since the start of the PORCELAIN journey and we remain enthralled by their future soul and neo-trip hop sound.

This is the first of two releases from PORCELAIN. This Club version will be followed by the original PORCELAIN mix plus some special remixes.

An air of mystery continues to surround PORCELAIN with mannequins deputising for band members on their cool Instagram feed. This enigmatic music collective is slowly amassing a cult-like following with tastemakers and music royalty including Joe Smooth, Jumpin’ Jack Frost, Armin Van Buuren and even Mick Fleetwood quick to lavish praise on their music.

“Truly amazing! It’s like soul music from outer space” – Mick Fleetwood

Now hotly fancied Belgian trio KRANKk have come on board to collaborate on new single ‘Free’.  KRANKk deliberately set out to blow a new wind through electronic music. Their music immerses listeners in a giddy twist of electronics and live instrumentation. Keyboardist Aram Abgaryan, drummer Thomas Geysen, and guitarist Willem Heylen met at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, where they bonded over their love of electronic music. Their futuristic music respects what came before, drawing inspiration from the classics of Burial or Kode9 + The Spaceape. Fans of Massive Attack and The Bug will find plenty to enjoy in their reworking.

‘Free’ contains everything we’ve come to love and expect from a PORCELAIN track, with those trademark icy cold soulful female vocals which seem to hit at a deeper frequency. This is not just music you hear, but music you really feel.

‘Free’ simmers enticingly like a pot on the stove with the occasional bubble of energy. It’s a track to be played as the sun sets or the sun rises on a Greek Island hopping adventure. Utterly sublime.
