Efterlo and The Daydream Club ‘Somewhere To Belong’ is a dreamy collaboration and the story about searching and finding something significant.

Efterlo, The Daydream Club – ‘Somewhere To Belong’

A serendipitous introduction led to a wonderful collaboration. Artist Jess Matthews was seeking a producer and was directed to Adam Pickering (The Daydream Club) by BBC Introducing. The pair met up and clicked like old friends, writing and recording three finished songs in just one session, which led to the creation of Efterlo.

‘Somewhere To Belong’ was written and recorded in the space of a few hours and also features Paula Pickering (The Daydream Club) alongside Jess and Adam. Jess and Paula’s voices blend so well, at times it is hard to distinguish the difference.

“It’s one of those songs that almost created itself it was so effortless, I’m a lucky chap getting to work with these two brilliant ladies”. [Adam Pickering]

Blending ambient, dream pop and experimental production, Efterlo’s debut delivers an immersive and emotive soundtrack jammed full of hazy melodies and textured soundscapes. We can’t wait to hear what else was created in that session.

Sacrobosco, the innovative electronic project led by producer Giacomo Giunchedi, share his new track, Blackthrough and takes a deep dive into experimental electronica.

Sacrobosco – Blackthrough

Launched in 2020 during the pandemic, Sacrobosco was born out of Giacomo’s desire to create instrumental tracks driven by electronic elements. This venture sharply departed from his previous works under the alias Cadori.

Sacrobosco’s journey began with the debut EP Dam in 2020, followed by the double single Neon Sunshine/Avalanche later that year. However, it was the release of Both Sides of the Sky in 2021 that solidified Sacrobosco’s place in the electronic music scene. The album received critical acclaim, including praise from Emiliano Colasanti of 42 Records, who included it among the best releases of that year.

In 2023, Sacrobosco released two albums, IVXVI and IXVXI, which earned him recognition and an extensive live schedule. His international performances at venues like Kiosk Radio in Brussels, La Pointe Lafayette in Paris, and Madame Claude in Berlin further expanded his presence in the electronic music community.

2024 marked another significant milestone with the launch of Sacrobosco’s label, Antinational Noise. This new venture allows Giacomo to curate and release various electronic music projects, further showcasing his versatility and influence as an artist.

Looking ahead to his third full-length album, Sacrobosco is already generating buzz with the release of the single Once in March 2024. His collaboration with trumpeter Paolo Raineri has played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of this upcoming record, and Blackthrough is the latest teaser from that record.

A consistent theme in Sacrobosco’s music is the contrasting relationship between man and machine, and Blackthrough continues this exploration. The track drifts through a sequence of evolving sonic patterns, pulling the listener into a space where repetition meets unpredictability. Without using vocals, it still manages to communicate something visceral, almost tactile in its emotional reach.

“Blackthrough is a masterful example of electronica, expertly produced and effectively capturing its intriguing theme.”

Alongside Once, Blackthrough will feature on Apes + Tigers, Sacrobosco’s highly anticipated third album, which has already generated significant excitement. More details are expected soon.

After releasing a trio of well-received singles this year, DanFromUpstairs is set to make his mark with his eclectic debut album, Hopeless Fables.

DanFromUpstairs – Hopeless Fables

Brighton’s Daniel O’Brien, known as DanFromUpstairs, has been tirelessly promoting his debut full-length album. Embracing an eclectic approach, Dan blends multiple genres as a form of creative expression, a theme that resonates throughout the 11 tracks of his debut LP, Hopeless Fables.

With a diverse and vibrant mix of sounds spanning rock, electronica, hip-hop, funk, jungle, and folk, DanFromUpstairs challenges the notion of perfection that often surrounds ideas like life, death, and love.

What if the spirits that controlled our fate were just as hopeless as we are? What if death was flawed and clumsy? What if love could misfire? Would we still try to find order amidst the chaos?”

The album opens with the instrumental track Pearly Gates, a fitting introduction featuring a chaotic mix of sounds that gives way to emotional depth, setting the tone for the rest of the record. Cupid’s Error follows, with infectious beats and standout guitar work, enhanced by Dan’s collaborator Luke Matthews, whose vocals add a soothing element.

The album then takes an unpredictable turn with Cthulu, The Circus Animal, a drum & bass instrumental bursting with frantic scratching and saxophone melodies. In contrast, Genie in a Baggie offers a funky, danceable groove with spoken verses that pull you into its rhythm.

Death’s Diary, featuring rapper Surron the 7th, continues the upbeat energy with a captivating mix of female vocals and sharp rhymes. Two instrumental interludes follow, with Stork in a Storm delivering electronic arrangements and Grief slowing the pace, layering hazy effects and poignant guitar.

One of the album’s singles, Love, takes a refreshing look at this universal theme, supported by an irresistible guitar hook and vocals from Luke Matthews. Ugly Succubus brings futuristic flair, blending robotic effects with rapper BrokenPen’s dynamic wordplay.

As the album nears its conclusion, Happy Ending delivers another groovy track with energy and precision. The final song, Death’s Disciple, features singer-songwriter Elliot Albert Orchard, evoking a sombre mood with acoustic guitar and deep vocals, closing the album with an ethereal, theatrical flourish.

Hopeless Fables offers an engaging collection of thought-provoking musical stories, with its rich variety and standout performances inviting listeners to return to this sonic experience again and again.

With its wide range of genres and intriguing themes, Hopeless Fables stands as a remarkable achievement for DanFromUpstairs, delivering an otherworldly experience that’s well worth revisiting.

With their signature fusion of electronic and pop, London’s duo Tainted Youth continues to enchant audiences with their latest offering ‘Fire In Me’.

Tainted Youth – Fire In Me

Established just recently in 2021, Tainted Youth is comprised of the skilled producer Ryan Hall and the talented vocalist Kathleen Down. Drawing from diverse musical influences, the duo crafts compositions that seamlessly traverse the realms of electronic and hyper pop, conveying powerful messages of self-empowerment, resilience, and a critique of the prevailing social and political landscape.

As interesting as their musical repertoire, Ryan and Kathleen hail from contrasting backgrounds. Ryan, originally from Scotland, made a transcontinental move to Brisbane, Australia at the age of six before eventually returning to the UK in 2017 to pursue his studies in production and engineering. Meanwhile, Kathleen, born and raised in San Francisco, California, embarked on her journey to London in 2018 to delve into songwriting, eventually blossoming into a singer-songwriter.

Since their inception, Tainted Youth has graced renowned stages including the Ministry of Sound Nightclub and The Troxy Theater. Their musical prowess extends beyond live performances, earning acclaim for their compositions. Evidence of this acclaim lies in their track Feel That Way, nominated for Song of the Year at the 2022 Future Hits Music Awards.

The latest track, Fire In Me, stands as a shining example of Tainted Youth’s ability to inspire. It fearlessly delves into the theme of breaking out of comfort zones, pursuing dreams, and conquering self-doubt, urging listeners to embrace courage even in the face of fear.

Fire In Me shines like a refreshing breeze, showcasing meticulous production that proves motivational songs need not be aggressive to ignite inspiration. With soothing arrangements and delightful vocal effects, the track seamlessly oscillates between tranquil melodies and energetic beats, perfectly complementing Kathleen’s emotive vocals as she delivers the poignant lyrics with finesse.

Fire In Me is a deeply emotional and exquisitely produced anthem that encapsulates themes of bravery and the pursuit of dreams, serving as a powerful source of inspiration.

Whether labelled destiny or mere happenstance, the undeniable truth remains: the fortuitous union of these two talented artists has birthed a remarkably cohesive project. Their synergy is palpable, resulting in a body of work that flourishes thanks to their seamless collaboration. So, close your eyes and allow Tainted Youth to ignite the spark within you.

Discover Sonia Ahmed’s hypnotic dance-house track.

Sonia Ahmed – ‘Mango’

It’d be understandable if you thought of fruit from the title ‘Mango’. And though mangoes are great, and potentially a reference to Sonia Ahmed’s South Asian heritage, the title also serves as a play on words, a cool dismissal to anyone who bothers you while you’re feeling yourself – man, go.

Sonia Ahmed describes herself as a genre-hopping artist who transcends boundaries and celebrates cultural roots. After the success of her debut single ‘Freedom’ in 2023, she’s back with her sophomore release.

‘Mango’ is an infectious electronic track with influences of dance, house, and more, and a positive, uninhibited energy. ‘

Wake up every day like a goddess’, opens Ahmed, speak-singing in a cool-girl drawl. The lyrics are confident and youthful, rap influenced with lines like ‘ain’t nothing change but the Prada, flaws on my face, don’t see nada’. There’s also a sense of pride and expectations in the line ‘Imma give em something to be proud of’.  The ‘do what we want hook’ is particularly memorable, sliding over the beats tipsily, before the whispery ‘mango’ hook drops. Fruit has never been so freeing.

The production combines a sultry synth bass and minor, hypnotic harmonies. Claps set up a dancefloor groove over shuffling, twisting beats, showing influences of grime, house, drum and bass, and more. Somewhere between Dizzee Rascal and M.I.A might be a good reference for Sonia Ahmed. Anyone looking for something fresh to add to their electronic playlists could do worse than putting ‘Mango’ on and seeing how the dancefloor reacts.

Dark and brooding with a uniquely melancholic essence, ‘Crown Of Thorns’ by The Subtheory is captivating electronic, trip-hop that captures a vibe unlike anything else.

The Subtheory – Crown Of Thorns

Sitting delicately between the realms of ambient synth and gorgeously structured drums is Cate Debu on vocals. She reels you in with an ethereal voice that’s just perfect for the bands sound. The sonically rich guitar work by Pat Scott sits nicely atop rock solid bass work by George Lambourne and Andy Hill, the founder of this multi-talented project has hit the production nail on the head here.

Lyrically the track is superb. While whimsical and sometimes plaintive the single is powerful in essence as the narrator takes you on an emotional journey. The chemistry between the four is on full display here. You can really breathe in the atmosphere and know this is a band that knows who they want to be and where they want to go.

‘Crown Of Thorns’ continues the group’s foray into addressing intimate, emotional struggles and feelings that have become a staple of their melancholic and dreamily eerie sound. The crashing drums and thick bass lines are insatiably addictive and paired with profound lyricism and warm vocals it’s a soundscape you want to dive into time and time again. Dripping with pain and heartache, Debu’s voice is not only an essential part of this band but an immediate hit in the alternative electronica scene.

A necessary part of cementing their brilliant sound, an ode to the production has to be mentioned. Elegant, and refined but not afraid to push boundaries, The Subtheory’s eclectic sonic landscapes are tethered to the lush and rich production values on every song. ‘Crown Of Thorns’ is absolutely no exception to the rule, dragging you into a celestial river of music you never want to be free of. Set to release their debut album in early 2024, The Subtheory have amassed a strong following thanks to their alt sound and unique aura.

“Describing themselves as ‘Outsider art for those that don’t quite fit in’ it’s clear they have found themselves in their cathartic art. With their new single ‘Crown Of Thorns’, it’s no wonder so many others feel the same.”

Brainheart released his first massively successful single, ‘Explore the World’ in 2019. Now, he’s back with ‘Close To You’, an electronic pop song that will make you feel a strong and distinct emotion.

Brainheart feat. Anica – Close To You

Introducing Brainheart – the creative persona of Roi Zohar, who has carved his niche as an independent music producer, songwriter, and DJ. Brainheart’s debut single was a huge hit on music platforms, with over 2 million plays, and became viral on reels. Since then, he has continued to thrive in the electronic dance music industry.

Brainheart’s latest track, a collaboration with singer-songwriter Anica, features a blend of cinematic and electronic influences and is exquisitely produced. Anica’s effortless vocals gave justice in delivering the uncomplicated yet emotional lyrics of the track. Brainheart’s production, on the other hand, is a fusion of EDM, pop, distorted guitars, and established chord progressions resulting in a well-crafted EDM/Pop song.

Lyrically speaking, this heartfelt work of art features a relatable experience of the struggles to move on from someone who still lingers in our hearts. The satisfying build-up even leads to an amazing beat drop in the chorus. The song’s introspective nature doesn’t diminish its ability to be enjoyed at music festivals, road trips, or other music events, making it worthy of recognition. If you are a fan of ILLENIUM, Armin van Buuren, Avicii, and the likes, this song is for you!

“Brainheart’s impeccable production creates a truly emotional EDM/pop experience.”

Now for the bonus part! Being reflective by nature, Brainheart and Anica made an acoustic version of ‘Close To You,’ adding more depth and rawness to the lyrics. They did not hesitate to incorporate sensational effects into the acoustic version through layered piano melodies, and dramatic strings. Both versions will strike you with meaningful and atmospheric vibes, regardless of your choice. ‘Close To You’ is available on all major music streaming platforms.

Saturday Night Gym Club are an electronica group comprised of members spread across England, Scotland, and Denmark. Infusing their electronic-focused approach with elements of pop, classical and singer-songwriter, the band has been crafting a unique, energetic sound since first emerging more than ten years ago.

Saturday Night Gym Club – Distracted By You

Overcoming personal difficulties, Nick Crowe, Conor O’Kane, Tom Bounford and Alan Sanderson joined forces again during the 2020 lockdown, reigniting their flame towards the creation of new music. As a result, they have just released the vibrant single ‘Distracted By You’.

Building from a more restrained and subtle start, the elegant ‘Distracted By You’ gradually gains intensity with its mesmerizing, trance-inducing beat reaching dancing heights mid-song before crashing at just under the four-minute mark. The richly-layered song, in addition to its stellar danceable structure, features an interesting, somewhat brooding vocal performance that complements the number’s hypnotic mood.

Both danceable and atmospheric, Distracted By You is an exceptional, cleverly-assembled collage of sound.

The song, along with much of the group’s current output, was created remotely with the help of cloud file-sharing tools. While I come from a lo-fi gear, live recording, and punk rock background, there’s no denying the march of time, and technological innovations are superb tools to create great music, provided they are used by talented people. Fortunately, this is the case with the four resourceful individuals comprising SNGC.

‘Distracted By You’ paves the way for SNGC’s 15-track LP that should be released in the upcoming months, so stay tuned for more music from the group and their brand of sophisticated euro electronica.

Since 2019, Hamburg-born Deve has been demonstrating time and time again why he is a significant presence in Germany’s independent scene. His newest single, Wasser (water), is another example of the formidable lyrical work that made him a head-turning act.

Deve – Wasser

Following the release of the EP Du.Alles. (2019) and some well-received singles and remixes all over 2020 and 2021, Deve has decided to take the next step and prepare his first full-length record named 1983, with the track Wasser being the first release from this upcoming album.

For Wasser, Deve teamed up with a recurrent collaborator, the skilled Frankfurt producer Niklas Kleber, resulting in a captivating mixture of pop and electronic music. The upbeat electronic rhythms and playful production featured in this track function as the perfect vehicle for Dave’s warm vocal delivery, slowly sinking you into an infectious aural torrent that you won’t be able to get out of your head.

Lyrics-wise, this melody reflects on the need for security that occurs during childhood and the self-determined actions that adults can take, like rhythm and dancing, all combined to evoke an unparalleled sensation of freedom and self-discovery, with the theme of water working as a crucial concept throughout this entire piece.

“Wasser is fresh, catchy and addictive to the core.”

Luckily, Wasser is just a tiny teaser of what’s yet to come. With a new single called Kreis set for release on January 13th, and the launch of the LP 1983 in February”.

Noel Fanaeian aka Hundredmillionthousand is a Persian-Filipino composer hailing from Edmonton, Canada. His new EP Attention Span takes Electronic music to a new level of perception and intimacy.

Hundredmillionthousand – Attention Span

Consisting of 6 tracks, Attention Span looks to depict Noel’s struggles to communicate and establish connections in the highly technological, modern digital world, which according to him, has reshaped the way humans interact with one another. To achieve this, Noel sampled the sexual moments of partners who met through dating apps, aiming to mimic the cycle of online connections.

Track One features a plethora of arrangements perfectly complemented by gorgeous ethereal, harmonious vocals and minimalistic beats, melting with the piano accompaniment into a complex bombardment of pleasing sounds. By the end of this piece, the introduction of some dissonant and thunderous effects creates a feeling of discomfort.

The self-titled track Attention Span is driven by a tribal rhythm, going back and forth with a chaotic mixture of aural abundance.

In Seven, Noel collaborated with Xuan Rong, who provides the vocals for this piece, being the only track on this record that is not a purely instrumental work. The mesmerizing production has a rich texture, only topped by Xuan’s angelic voice.

Ten with its reverb voices and multi-layered auditive effects, evokes anxiety, rapidly building into a cornucopia of electronic grandiose.

Eleven makes plenty of usage of the previously mentioned sexual moments, cleverly mixed and looped, meticulously dispersed in the complex production of this song.

For Five, the final delivery of this EP, Noel chose to end things spectacularly, in a display of epic proportions, with a choir chant and melodic vocals that prevail throughout the entire duration of this song, granting this composition a heavenly aura.

Attention Span is an ambitious showcase of originality in production that takes the listeners on an aural trip without leaving the comfort of their homes.

Attention Span blurs the line between the artificial nature of electronic music and the inherent human condition always present in art in all its forms. Definitely, a clear example that there is still plenty of room for experimentation and innovation within this music genre.
