With their five-track EP ‘Two Bucks and a Bottle of Ketchup’, The Ovines channel the chaos, humour, and grit of modern life into a high-octane alt-rock experience.

The Ovines – ‘Two Bucks and a Bottle of Ketchup’

Rooted in Kent and based in London, The Ovines have carved out a reputation for their explosive live shows and tight-knit chemistry, qualities that have earned them supporting slots for The Libertines, Buzzcocks, The Sherlocks, King Prawn, and Spear of Destiny. Their latest EP, Two Bucks and a Bottle of Ketchup,  captures that same spirit, pairing punchy songwriting with unfiltered energy.

The opening track Ten Street Mile wastes no time. It’s a blistering, full-speed rocker driven by frantic drums and untamed riffs. It’s loud, messy, and completely addictive, an ideal introduction to The Ovines’ unpredictable charm.

Loose Change shifts gears with a more introspective mood. Melancholic guitar lines and a steady, hypnotic bassline set the tone, while the band’s signature raw lyricism remains front and center. It’s a standout moment of depth, wrapped in atmospheric production and proof that The Ovines can do more than just hit hard, they can make it count.

The EP’s title track, Two Bucks, returns to full-throttle mode. Vocalist Matt Adams delivers rapid-fire verses with a near-rap cadence, matched by a wild guitar solo that explodes in under two and a half minutes, along with a chorus that will stay rent-free inside your head. It’s striking, loose, and yet surprisingly catchy.

Mind of Mine introduces skank guitar passages that lift the track into something emotionally resonant, yet never too polished to lose its edge. It’s another strong entry that broadens the EP’s range while holding onto its core identity.

Closing with Loser Mate, The Ovines end on a note as unruly as the beginning. With its no-holds-barred instrumentation and biting lyrics, it’s a fitting finale that encapsulates everything the band is about.

“Two Bucks and a Bottle of Ketchup is loud, irreverent, and unapologetically fun, an EP that captures the essence of The Ovines in just five tracks. For fans of alt-rock with grit and wit, this release is well worth the ride.”

Catch The Ovines live:

  • July 31st – Signature Brew Haggerston (EP launch party w/ Nick Diver & Angered Kenneth)
  • October 4th – Viper Theatre, Florence, Italy (Opening for Buzzcocks)

Straight out of Newcastle, PØRTERS introduce themselves with their debut EP, Motion Without Direction, delivering a raw take on alt-rock.

PØRTERS – Motion Without Direction

Fronted by Maria Winter on vocals and rounded out by Kieran Taylor (guitar, vocals), James Hughes (bass, vocals), Nick Gladdish (keys, vocals), and Tom Furniss (drums), PØRTERS take pride in a sound that fuses alternative rock with rich four-part harmonies, a defining trait of the band’s identity.

Following the positive reception of their first two singles, PØRTERS push further with Motion Without Direction, a four-track EP that explores themes of identity, uncertainty, and impulse. Blending raw lyricism with a mix of heavy riffs and atmospheric textures, this release offers a sharp introduction to the band’s range.

Opening with Where Are We Going?, the EP starts on an unexpected note. The track begins with ambient seaside sounds before giving way to a slow-building, echo-laced arrangement. It’s introspective, layered, and experimental, showing early on that PØRTERS are willing to take creative risks.

Things shift dramatically with The Thrill, a punchy, riff-driven rock anthem that contrasts sharply with the opener. Fueled by infectious guitar lines, soaring vocals, and a high-octane solo, the track delivers pure energy and a glimpse of the band’s bolder edge.

The Devil I Know bridges both worlds, starting as a restrained, melodic slow-burn before unexpectedly surging into a faster, more chaotic midsection. It later settles back into its original groove, giving the song a dynamic, circular structure that keeps listeners engaged.

The closer, Recover, brings the EP to a powerful finish. Built around a classic rock framework, it allows each band member to shine, especially Maria Winter, whose vocals carry the track with conviction and flair.

Motion Without Direction is a solid debut that serves as a reminder of classic rock’s enduring appeal, offering one of the most satisfying throwbacks in recent memory.

Motion Without Direction is a strong start for a promising up-and-coming band. With standout production and sharp musicality, PØRTERS set a high standard from the outset. This debut is well worth a listen.

Swedish post-rock band Sire returns with their latest EP, Koyot, a thought-provoking instrumental record that delves into the complexities of human nature.

Sire – Koyot

Formed in 2017 in Örebro, Sweden, Sire is a four-piece band that refuses to be confined by genre labels. While often associated with post-rock, their diverse musical backgrounds shape a fluid and evolving sound. This openness has defined their previous albums, Dispositio (2018) and Chasing Light (2019), and continues to drive Koyot forward.

The EP emerged from a turbulent time for Sire, marked by lineup changes and personal challenges. These hardships inform the record’s overarching theme—a world divided by conflict, where walls are built, families are separated, and uncertainty looms. Through evocative instrumentals, Koyot conveys an “us against them” sentiment, balancing defiance with melancholy.

The self-titled opening track, Koyot, stretches over nine minutes, beginning with a slow, atmospheric build of steady drums and emotive guitar riffs. Gradually, the composition expands into a powerful arrangement of soaring guitars and thunderous percussion, culminating in a serene, reflective outro.

Moving from the longest track to the shortest, Saltsjön immediately captures attention with its melancholic guitar work and richly layered atmosphere. The delicate melodies and subtle textures give the track an almost dreamlike quality, pulling the listener into its reflective mood.

Blodmåne follows with a more intense and urgent tone. Piercing drum patterns and intricate chord progressions create a sense of unease, while dynamic shifts in tempo heighten the tension. As the pacing accelerates, the track builds an underlying anxiety.

Closing the EP, Flykten leans into a sombre, meditative space. Airy guitars blend with ghostly background vocals, moving fluidly between restrained calm and swelling emotion. A reflective acoustic guitar passage brings Koyot to a solemn and poignant conclusion.

“Striking a balance between aggression and serenity, Koyot exemplifies Sire’s ability to craft deeply evocative instrumental music.”

Conveying emotion and meaning through instrumental music can be challenging, yet Sire accomplishes this effortlessly with Koyot. Each track carries a deep sense of humanity, allowing us to relate on an emotional level despite the absence of lyrics. In a world unravelling, Koyot serves as a fitting soundtrack to its uncertainty and unrest.

With a deep sense of introspection and a candid exploration of uncertainty, Enla Arboleda has unveiled his latest EP, Other Ways To Find Yourself.

Enla Arboleda – Other Ways To Find Yourself

Enla Arboleda, the creative vision of Colombian singer-songwriter and producer Santiago Giraldo Arboleda, blends his diverse background with a strong experimental musical voice. After travelling extensively, he now resides in London, where his music reflects a thoughtful dialogue between memory, nature, and the soul.

Enla Arboleda on Spotify

2024 has been a year of significant growth for Enla Arboleda. He released four singles, including two accompanied by music videos, formed a live band, and performed at various venues across London. These efforts culminate in the release of Other Ways To Find Yourself, a five-track EP that chronicles his experiences as a migrant in the UK. The EP explores emotions such as solitude, doubt, and a yearning for balance between heartache and hope, imbuing the collection with a profound existential weight.

The EP begins with the reflective When The Light Goes Out, a single that draws listeners into a tranquil soundscape, with delicate instrumentation and dreamy, evocative vocals, setting a reflective mood that carries through the entire collection.

Define Me follows, shifting gears with cold yet infectious electronic beats. Despite the contrast in production, this track maintains the same poignant mood, enhanced by haunting back vocals that add emotional depth to its introspective lyrics.

In Daydreamer, Enla Arboleda weaves rich textures with candid guitar and subtle drumming, crafting a soothing ambience perfect for drifting into a dreamlike state. The track’s serene atmosphere encourages listeners to lose themselves in its gentle flow.

Next, I Don’t Belong Here emerges as one of the EP’s most emotionally charged pieces. Both lyrically and in its production, this track delivers a deeply personal experience, with sensitive arrangements and a moving performance that is sure to stir listeners.

The final track, Rewire Rewrite, taps into ambient and electronic realms. Its majestic compositional structure brings the EP to a powerful close, offering a dignified sense of resolution.

“Other Ways To Find Yourself stands as a beautifully crafted work, showcasing Enla Arboleda’s ability to blend thoughtful production with heartfelt songwriting. The EP eloquently addresses universal insecurities and the complexities of the human nature.”

While this review marks the end of this chapter, Enla Arboleda’s journey is far from over. With upcoming gigs in London and plans to release new music throughout 2025, be sure to follow Enla Arboleda on social media to stay updated on what’s next.

Singer-songwriter Linn Holmes unveils her debut EP, Introducing Linn Holmes. This deeply introspective work features an eclectic fusion of genres that’s not to be missed!

Linn Holmes – Introducing Linn Holmes

Following the success of her first two singles, Los Angeles-based Linn Holmes has reached a new milestone with her debut EP, Introducing Linn Holmes. This four-track record includes the two previously released songs Cut Me and Baby Blue, along with two new tracks.

Before diving into this work, it’s essential to mention its versatility. One might think consistency would be difficult to achieve with just four songs, but Linn Holmes has crafted a highly versatile EP that exceeds expectations and keeps things fresh with every track.

This brief record begins with Baby Blue, a track she released just over a month ago. Filled with lively instrumentation and showcasing her impressive vocal range, the song exudes good vibes with its endearing lyrics about seeking perfect love.

Departing significantly from its predecessor, Cut Me embraces a more serious blues-oriented melody. Enhanced by its exquisite bluesy guitar and poignant vocal delivery, Linn embodies resilience, affirming strength in the face of adversity.

Shifting genres once more, Drifting offers a simple yet equally impactful acoustic piece, akin to the previous tracks. This beautiful tune unveils another facet of the artist, with its minimal production effectively capturing the heartache of falling out of love with someone deeply cherished, echoing the sentiment of never forgetting that person.

With three tracks behind us and one left to go, fortunately, this final instalment maintains its high quality. Checkmate returns us to the soulful style seen in Baby Blue, featuring ambitious production, subtle drums, a satisfying piano arrangement, and melodious backing vocals. These elements vividly convey the frustrations of unreciprocated love and the ongoing struggle to commit fully — akin to a strategic game of chess in the unpredictable realm of love.

Introducing Linn Holmes is a highly enjoyable collection. Its impeccable production, and deeply personal narrative, offer a captivating glimpse into the world of a skilled musician.

Like an anthology story, this collection of songs showcases various aspects: love, joy, life, frustration, heartache, resilience, and everything in between. Linn Holmes ensures a memorable first impression that will linger in your mind — truly a remarkable introduction.

Right from the outset, this song sets the mood with vibrant guitar passages. This piece gleams like a spark in the midnight sky, featuring subtle yet colourful instrumentation that complements its heartfelt songwriting, making it an ideal soundtrack for contemplating and dreaming about what could have been.

Pop starlet Alessia shines bright on her debut EP Modern Disco Girl. Listen now on Spotify.

Alessia – Modern Disco Girl

This joyously danceable record celebrates modern love and life travails through the retro lens of disco pop. Title track MODERN DISCO GIRL and MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE accompanies previous singles ELECTRICITY and SPICY.

The EP title track ‘MODERN DISCO GIRL’, starts with an intro full of disco shimmy and the lyric ‘You’re Bringing In The Sunshine’ which perfectly sets the tone for the direction of this EP. This is the soundtrack to feel-good, grab the keys to the nearest convertible and turn this up as you drive off into the sunset. The backing ‘whoops’ accentuates the joy and excitement of newfound love. It’s hard not to listen on repeat.

ELECTRICITY is such an infectious earworm, that this groove will stay in your head. It feels like this EP could be the soundtrack to a new relationship, if MODERN DISCO GIRL was the promise of those early interactions, then ELECTRICITY is date two or three when you openly declare your true feelings. You want this in your life.

MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE is the feeling you never want the night to end, before SPICY rachets up the heat and the thrill of someone sharing your bed. By now your beauty sleep is disregarded as you dance through the night.

MODERN DISCO GIRL was produced and co-written by the legendary Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran, Jamie Lawson).  Fans of Kylie, Sigrid, The Weekend and Calvin Harris will find something to love here.

‘I Am Not a Machine’ is Phoebe Coco’s intimate new EP.

Phoebe Coco – I Am Not a Machine

There’s an eclectic mix of sounds that helps make Coco’s discography deliciously inviting, but it’s her sense of self and ability to create unique soundscapes that has really defined her as an artist to look out for. Her newest EP ‘I Am Not a Machine’ is a beautiful glimpse into this brave new artist’s mind.

The first track ‘Machine’ echoes the vocal elasticity and choral refrain of bands like ‘Soda Blonde’ while the instrumentation could hint at a ‘Sleeping at Last’ track on acid. Trying to compare the strong lyricism and lush atmosphere, however, would be futile. The song reflects Coco’s experience with city life and the wilderness, modern-day existence and the struggle to overcome everyday living contradictions. Three-time Grammy award winner Eduardo De La Paz co-produced this track, and its radio-friendly appearance never overcomes its personable form. Mastered by Kevin Tuffy (who recently won Mastering Engineer of the Year) ‘Machine’ is as smooth as they come. The track is also accompanied by a brilliant new music video:

Raised in a singing matriarchy of women, Coco embraces her family’s lineage and influence. It’s evident on every corner of this record, especially on ‘Clear Eyes’ and ‘Earth Dream’. As with ‘Machine’, both songs house these blisteringly unique ‘blood harmonies’ that help craft sonic landscapes of ecstatic passion.

Doused with subtle but present jazzy instrumentation, the EP isn’t afraid to take risks and let Coco’s personal tastes bleed onto classic songwriting structures and strong choruses. It’s arguably the EP’s biggest strength along with Coco’s haunting vocals. The rhythm taking a backseat on this EP at times allows the brass in songs like ‘Machine’ to nestle neatly into the mix. ‘Clear Eyes’ also lets the dreamy piano sit right and centre with a simple tambourine jingling in the background effortlessly.

It’s increasingly difficult to find modern pop music with such personality and character. This EP is defined by Coco’s identity as a songwriter and as a human. There’s such power in tracks like ‘Earth Dream’s refined, intimate sound. The atmosphere in production wouldn’t be half as captivating without Coco’s chordal choices and siren backing vocals.

‘I Am Not a Machine’ drenches a rich canvas of pop ballads and soul influences, with character and intimate storytelling, a formula quickly becoming synonymous with Phoebe Coco’s sound.

The last single before the release of her debut EP, Fuck Up Your Life shows Brianna Scully thirsty for vengeance.

Brianna Scully – Fuck Up Your Life

Now here’s a song every one of us can surely identify with. Brianna Scully has decided she has had enough of being the helpless wronged fairytale princess. No more turning the other cheek! Watch out, the scumbag who thought you could step on her heart and then just walk away. She wants to “Fuck Up Your Life”!

With a self-proclaimed knack for confessional lyrics, the LA-based singer-songwriter has penned the best F-U anthem I’ve heard in years. The marriage of her understated, slightly breathy delivery, her sweet girlie tone and the blunt vengefulness of the chorus (complete with an F-bomb dropped with the sincerest casualness) just makes the whole experience irresistible!

All the more so because the explosive “I’ll get to you, bastard” chorus doesn’t pop up before the verses excruciatingly describe the continuous abuse this girl has been subjected to. “You think I’m pretty when I don’t speak”, she goes to then add: “While I’m screaming at the ceiling/ You’re out screwing someone else”.

Of course, the naked vengeance vows in the chorus could never be delivered without the appropriate synth-boom, blowing up every time she utters each line’s last syllable. The distorted guitar strokes, kept blunt, free of reverbs and only backed up by the simplest of electronic beats sound painfully true to the lyrics’ epiphanic sincerity. Yes, she does hate you and is probably planning quite the retaliation. What are you going to do about it? There’s power in stating a not-so-endearing fact of life out loud, no frivolous adornments, no beating around the bush.

After receiving coverage from Happy Mag, Bored City, Lost in the Nordics and Right Chord Music, Brianna Scully is releasing her debut EP “MANIC” this Autumn. “Fuck Up Your Life” is the final single before the full project comes out.
