Irish band MANA delivers a distinct take on a range of societal issues with their post-punk track Nauseating Me.

MANA – Nauseating Me

Made up of Greg Clifford, Shane Byrne, and Niclas Liebling, MANA is a rising Irish band now based in Berlin. Their sound fuses indie rock with post-punk, combining guitar tones reminiscent of the late ’70s and early ’80s with songwriting that reflects defiance and hope amid polarization, cynicism, and displacement.

MANA Nauseating Me

Following the release of their debut track Our Words this past July, MANA is committed to delivering quality music with their second single, Nauseating Me. According to lyricist Greg Clifford, this composition explores a variety of contexts, as he explains:

The song is not explicitly about any one thing, it more so alludes to themes and notions such as romanticising recalcitrance, wanderlust and liberation, while starring into the inescapable abyss of a world strung out on fake news, quotidian clickbait snares, spam, fraudulent authorities and relentless terms and conditions. Hard not to get nauseous when contending with the current state of play”.

Nauseating Me fully embraces classic post-punk instrumentation, featuring cold, fast-paced riffs that make it essential listening for fans of the sub-genre. Enhanced by soft vocals and thought-provoking lyrics, the song evokes a sense of longing and bewildered disappointment. To complement the release, the band has also launched a music video that aligns perfectly with these themes.

“With its lyrical depth and performance steeped in melancholy, Nauseating Me is a striking post-punk gem ready to be uncovered.”

If you want to continue supporting these talented newcomers, be sure to catch them live on Saturday, November 30th, at Whelan’s Dublin, with support from Molly Vulpyne. Get your tickets here.

Known in the indie music scene for her distinctive interpretation of R&B, newcomer Moniah has chosen to explore a fresh direction with her latest indie pop single, Sweet Escape.

Moniah – Sweet Escape

Born and raised in London, Moniah is an emerging artist recognized for her introspective lyricism and genre-blending sound. Inspired by artists such as Billie Eilish, Hope Tala, Raye, and Cat Burns, her music explores themes of self-expression, freedom, and authenticity.

Moniah Sweet Escape on Spotify

Moniah’s passion for music ignited at a young age; by the time she was nine, she was already singing and writing her own songs. However, it was in 2017 that she took a significant step forward by participating in songwriting bootcamps and retreats, which greatly enhanced her skills and refined her craft.

Some notable highlights of Moniah’s emerging career include having four singles featured on various radio stations, such as BBC 1Xtra, BBC 6 Music, Croydon FM, Hoxton Radio, and No Signal Radio. In addition, she has received support from several music outlets, including Dummy Mag, Wordplay Magazine, Niji Magazine, We Plug Good Music, and Atwood Magazine, among others.

After solidifying her presence as a skilled R&B artist, Moniah has chosen to embrace a more indie-oriented style in her latest single, Sweet Escape. Produced by Tim Blok, this track delves into themes of breaking free from societal pressures, pursuing love, and fully embracing the present moment.

Fueled by melancholy-infused guitar chords that blend seamlessly with an infectious upbeat rhythm, Sweet Escape is both beautiful and deeply emotional. Moniah’s rich vocals add an extra layer of sentimentality to the melody. Together, these perfectly balanced elements create a compelling sense of liberation and escape.

“Sweet Escape is a powerful expression of freedom, showcasing a sonic breakthrough filled with raw, unfiltered passion.”

With a fresh perspective and only upward momentum ahead, Moniah continues to carve her path through exciting new artistic directions. In the meantime, this talented newcomer is gearing up to release her debut EP in spring 2025, a project that can’t come soon enough.

Tom Wilkins’ ‘The Imposter’ is a song you can witness true, fragile, extraordinary beauty within. During the first 20 seconds, I was captured, moved to tears and the song, the story, the musicianship and its magic held my spirit hostage until the end. When the song, the place and time were over, I had formed a strong Stockholm Syndrome towards the artist, a humble Cardiff-based superstar-to-be.

Tom Wilkins – The Imposter

Tom Wilkins has the rare ability to place mirrors in front of the listener which shows a reflection of pure humanity through his out-of-this-world talent and artistry. In smaller increments – his effortless vocals can tear one apart, but it doesn’t cause any pain as his words are like an ocean to purify from grief, as heartbreaking and true as they are – and the music, the melody, harmonies, stunning and unexpected key changes remind me of some of the greatest pop composers in the world, like Brian Wilson.

Just when you think it cannot get any better – it does. It is not easy to compare gifted people’s talents (especially when I am talking about one of my favourite pop composers in the world and keeping in mind the realities like budgets and earlier work), but I also feel obliged to credit Wilkins’s vocal quality that has the kind of power to rebuild broken hearts like Harry Nilsson – his tone is unbelievable, rare and almost as if some kind of ancient angelic power had been resurrected and delivered to us from the origin of souls.

”The Imposter” tells a story about being a stranger in a crowd where everyone else knows each other and themselves. Being an outsider within himself, Wilkins manages to deliver a work that will stand the test of time without being one bit of an imposter. The production is artistically consistent with the song’s theme – pure, revealing and allows all the instruments as well as Wilkins’s vocals do their thing and shine.

”Tom Wilkins’s music is fundamentally great. A budding superstar whose full bloom will be something truly extraordinary.”

Inspired by a friend, singer-songwriter Danny Darlington has unveiled his new love-infused track, Freya.

Danny Darlington – Freya

Bury-based troubadour Danny Darlington is emerging as a promising name in the indie music scene. Although he has only released a few tracks, Danny has already achieved notable milestones, including over 20,000 streams for his 2023 singles Falling and The Hell Fire Club (Sheelagh’s Version) respectively.

What started as a playful joke among friends has transformed into one of Danny Darlington’s most compelling songs: Freya. Named after his friend who inspired the track, Freya delves into a nuanced and relatable situation. Danny describes the song as exploring themes that go beyond the initial jest, offering a deeper and more meaningful perspective.

As he further explains:

I originally wrote the chorus for this song as a joke after my friend, Freya, asked me to write a song about her in high school. Three years later I found a recording of it and decided to make it into a full song by creating a story of two friends who clearly have developed feelings for each other but are also trying to deal with trauma from past relationships. It’s hard to form a healthy relationship as it is, never mind when you’re hardly ever sober.”

Like a serene journey through the clouds, Freya creates a soothing atmosphere with gentle instrumentation. The subtle drums and bass merge with ethereal guitar passages, while Danny’s dreamy vocals weave a melody as sweet and enchanting as the inspiration behind the song.

“Freya is a delightfully charming dream pop gem.”

With his latest release, Danny Darlington proves that quality outweighs quantity. Although he doesn’t release new material every month, the enjoyment of his melodies makes frequent releases unnecessary.

TYYA B is back with her second release of the year with ‘My Way’.

TYYA B – My Way

Keeping the momentum going, the single deals with authenticity and having a fearless identity instead of an electronic instrumental packed with clever synth hooks and catchy drum machines.

Starting with an array of synthesized musical hooks, it’s evident that TYYA B knows her way around crafting a pop hit. The lyrics waste no time with their confrontational and retrospective take on identity building, with lines like “Do I sense comparison?” and “Your bad karma’s stopping me” hammering home what’s about to unfold. The structure of ‘My Way’ is particularly exciting as it draws you in closer to listening carefully to the message Tyya is delivering and her world as an artist. This is particularly evident in the song’s chorus, which delivers the central message: “I do what I want, and I do it my way.” It’s one of the catchiest refrains I’ve heard in a track for a while… It’s practically guaranteed to roll around your head for hours on end.

One of my favourite parts of this track is the instrumentation and how different feels and styles have been blended to produce a unique result. Just in this sub-three-minute song alone (clocking in at just under two minutes and forty seconds), you can hear blends of hip-hop, electronica, and dance music. ‘My Way’ is truly reminiscent of that golden 00s period of pop culture, with similarities to Lady Gaga and Charli XCX.

It’s refreshing to see an artist in the post-TikTok era of music-making being so proud of her identity and able to be herself without feeling any guilt or fear. I think this is one of the most exciting aspects of Tyya B and what makes her appear so fun, fresh, and unique.

My Way is a sensational example of synth-pop done properly, TYYA B is unapologetically authentic and energetically unique.

Introducing Leah Nawy

Leah Nawy is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. With years of training that have taken her through classical music, rock bands, and Berklee, she has started to release and refine her own genre-blending sound.

Leah Nawy – ‘Friend Of Mine’

‘Don’t wanna make another friend of mine… another person to leave behind’ opens ‘Friend Of Mine’ by Leah Nawy, a slightly weary reflection for a young artist. But don’t worry, the track isn’t weighed down – for all its thoughtfulness, this tune has a surprising amount of energy and maybe even a dancefloor groove.

‘Friend Of Mine’ is an unpredictable yet energetic indie-pop track, somehow both retro and fresh.

The introspective lyrics reflect on inconstant relationships. At times resigned – ‘maybe we just don’t get along’ – and at times accepting – ‘whatever’s left will take its shape’. There’s an unnerving feel to lyrics like ‘do we disappear’, but it’s balanced out by the confident melodies and Nawy’s full-throated, evocative vocal delivery.

The production constantly evolves, beginning with bubbling, ethereal synths and steady guitar picking, and layering subtle backing harmonies. A punchy synth bass harks back to the 1980s, yet some sock-hop beats seem to reference the 1950s, and then before you know it we’re in full 90s grunge guitar mode, complete with electric solo. Influences of acts like Blondie, Alabama Shakes and The Strokes can be heard, but it definitely feels unique – impressive for a new artist. The feel ranges from intimate to dancefloor, and the abrupt ending prompts another listen.
