Introducing Beat ‘N Track, a FREE interactive music map that connects artists with venues, services, freelancers, fans and even other musicians.

The ultimate unsigned guide

Frustrated by legacy music services like The Unsigned Guide, which charge artists to access industry contacts, Major Labl Artist Club co-founders Mark Knight and Sam Bardens set about creating a viable modern solution that allows independent artists to make connections without payment.

“Beat ‘N Track is like Google Maps meets LinkedIn with Fiverr thrown in for free.”

The result is Beat ‘N Track, the duo’s newly launched service that acts as an interactive map.  Beat ‘N Track allows users to zoom in on a location and find or connect with music venues, music services (including managers, indie labels, industry organisations, radio stations, recording studios and rehearsal spaces), as well as other musicians looking to collaborate.

Beat 'N Track the free interactive music map from Major Labl Artist Club

Beat ‘N Track aims to become the ultimate unsigned guide, music industry directory and a one-stop shop for musicians looking to find other musicians or connect with music industry services.

“As an independent artist myself, I’ve always found it frustrating that artists have to pay to access music contacts while the businesses that profit from musicians are listed for free.” Explains Sam Bardens.

Facilitating local music discovery

Whilst Beat ‘N Track was primarily designed to facilitate connections among artists within the music industry, it offers the added benefit of enabling serendipitous music discovery. Music fans can browse Beat ‘N Track to discover artists, venues, and gigs in any given area, with direct links to ticket sales.

Discover music in your area on Beat 'N Track

“Our ultimate ambition is to map the music world, allowing artists, venues, and music service providers to add themselves to the Beat N Track map. At launch, our focus is the UK, and we’ve already added over 1,000 map pins” and now we’re inviting artists to join us explains Mark Knight.

The time-consuming and costly nature of studio recording has become an increasingly problematic bottleneck for independent artists. Now, with the launch of Setmixer across UK grassroots venues, it seems the perfect time to reconsider how independent artists approach live recording and content creation.

The traditional live recording model for unsigned artists

Currently, artists looking to capture their live performances face several challenges. They either need to hire recording engineers and equipment for specific shows (often costing hundreds of pounds), rely on low-quality audience recordings, or forgo recording altogether. Those who do manage to record their performances then face weeks of waiting for mixing and mastering before they can share anything with their fans.

Setmixer offers an innovative alternative

7.4M performances are lost each year, when the artist leaves the stage, the moment is gone, forever. Until now. Setmixer is transforming this landscape by installing permanent, automated recording systems in grassroots venues across the UK. The concept is brilliantly simple: every time you perform, your entire set is professionally recorded and automatically mixed within 12 hours. No extra setup, no waiting around, no hefty studio bills.

Live at Paper Dress Vintage

Benefits to independent artists

When you play at a Setmixer-equipped venue, you receive a professionally mixed recording of your performance for promotional use at no cost. If you want to distribute the recording to fans you maintain 70% of the proceeds – dramatically more than traditional recording arrangements. Or if you want to access the multitrack stems for your own mixing, then you can easily get those for a small fee.

The quality speaks for itself

With over 5,000 shows recorded across 40 venues and consistently high ratings from artists (4.8 stars), Setmixer is already proving its worth to the grassroots music community. Their partnership with the Music Venue Trust means this technology will soon be available in many more venues across the UK.

A game-changer for content creation

For independent artists juggling social media demands with tight budgets, Setmixer presents an elegant solution. Every gig becomes an opportunity to capture professional-quality content that can be shared with fans the very next day. No more choosing between expensive studio time and subpar recordings – you can focus on what matters most: performing.

What does this mean for the future of live music?

Just as streaming services transformed music distribution, Setmixer is poised to revolutionise live recording. The ability to capture every performance professionally and share it with fans almost immediately opens up exciting new possibilities for artist-fan engagement and revenue streams.

The next time you’re booking a show, ask the venue if they’re equipped with Setmixer

If they’re not, let them know about the partnership with Music Venue Trust. As more venues adopt this technology, it has the potential to become as fundamental to the grassroots music scene as the PA system itself.

In a world where content is king and authentic live performances are more valued than ever, Setmixer isn’t just offering a service – it’s providing a crucial tool for the modern independent artist’s success.

AI Music Blocker. Protecting Independent Artists from the Threat of AI Music

Music startup Major Labl Artist Club has announced a ground-breaking partnership with French tech firm Ircam Amplify. This innovative collaboration positions them as the first company to block AI music from distribution.

The Major Label Response

AI music has recently moved from tech discussions to front-page news, with Universal Music, Sony Music, and Warner Music suing two AI music start-ups, Suno and Udio, for copyright infringement. These record labels claim that AI software trained on their music catalogues has been used to create new tracks without permission, leading to what they describe as copyright infringement on an “almost unimaginable scale”

Ircam Amplify estimates that 170 million AI-created tracks were uploaded to major streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music in 2023 alone. The impact of AI is further understood by recognising the increase in new tracks added to Spotify, which has risen from 55,000 per day in 2020 to 120,000 per day in 2024.

Stopping AI Music Distribution

While halting the illegal production of AI music is crucial, preventing its distribution is equally important. In response, Major Labl Artist Club (MLAC), a start-up owned by independent artists, has partnered with Ircam Amplify. Utilising Ircam Amplify’s advanced technology, MLAC can scan up to 5,000 music tracks in under a minute, effectively detecting and blocking AI-generated music with an accuracy rate of 98.5%.

“We exist to ensure independent artists always get paid their fair share of music royalties from streams, sales, and live performances. We can’t just sit back and watch as their music is being stolen to train AI music tools.  Major Labl is proud to be the first company to offer a real-world solution. Unlike the artists signed to Universal, Sony, and Warner, nobody is standing up for the independent artists.” Mark Knight, Co-Founder of Major Labl Artist Club.
Nathalie Birocheau, CEO and Co-Founder of Ircam Amplify, added, “We are thrilled to partner with Major Labl Artist Club to integrate our AI-Generated Detector into their ingestion process. This collaboration comes at a crucial time when AI-generated music is flooding digital platforms. Our easy and accurate API will help Major Labl distinguish between human-created and AI-generated music, ensuring transparency and supporting human artists whose work might otherwise be overshadowed.”

About Major Labl Artist Club

New music startup Major Labl Artist Club promises everything you need to run your music career online in one place. Supported by the SEIS Scheme and part of Microsoft for Start-ups, MLAC currently has over 3,000 independent artists on their waitlist. They are now raising pre-seed investment. For more information or to arrange a meeting visit their website.

About Ircam Amplify

Connected to IRCAM-Centre Pompidou, France’s foremost audio research institute, Ircam Amplify is a tech enabler.

Independent artists save 10% on the best vinyl record production with Right Chord Music and Diggers Factory.

As an independent artist navigating the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry, the quest for recognition and sustainability is a thrilling yet daunting journey. In today’s digital age, carving out a distinct presence demands creativity and innovation. However, amidst the sea of digital releases, vinyl not only cultivates a devoted fanbase but also enriches your revenue stream while offering something tangible: the realm of physical music formats.

The Tangible Essence of Music

In a world where music often exists as digital files streamed or downloaded, the allure of physical formats like vinyl records offers a palpable and intimate connection between artists and their audience. Holding a vinyl record, admiring its artwork, and experiencing the analogue sound on a turntable crafts an intimate and tactile bond that transcends the digital realm, fostering a profound relationship between the artist’s creation and the listener’s experience.

The Challenge for Independent Artists

For independent musicians, the prospect of pressing vinyl records has historically been both financially daunting and logistically complex. The expenses associated with production, coupled with uncertainties about demand and distribution, have deterred many talented artists from exploring this enriching avenue for their music.

Introducing Diggers Factory

Diggers Factory Print vinyl records on demand and save 10% with Right Chord Music

Enter Diggers Factory, an innovative platform dedicated to empowering independent musicians to bring their music into physical formats effortlessly. This groundbreaking solution opens doors for artists who previously deemed vinyl production unattainable.

Beyond crowdfunding, Diggers Factory extends comprehensive support throughout the entire production and distribution journey. From access to production facilities, logistics, and distribution networks to services encompassing mastering, graphic design, and more, artists receive invaluable assistance at every step.

  • Crafting Exclusive Collectibles:

Diggers Factory specializes not only in standard vinyl production but also in crafting exclusive limited-edition releases. These unique editions boast distinctive designs and carefully curated tracks, offering fans and collectors an added allure and exclusivity.

Expanding Revenue Horizons

Beyond fostering emotional connections, vinyl records represent a substantial revenue stream for independent artists. Music marketing agency Major Labl, which is part of the Right Chord Music Group has today announced FREE music marketing training for every independent artist.

Introducing Major Labl

Founded in 2018 by the Right Chord Music Group, Major Labl is a digital music marketing consultancy that helps transform unsigned artists into independent artists by improving the way they plan to release music.

Designed to be a more effective alternative to traditional music PR, Major Labl’s key point of difference is its focus on the marketing channels artists can control (social media and websites) rather than the channels they can’t control (radio, press, and live).

Since its inception, Major Labl has provided ‘one-to-one’ digital music marketing consultancy for a host of incredible unsigned and self-released musicians including Anna Wolf, Blackchords, Officer, Iraina Mancini, Porcelain, Rhona Macfarlane, Seil Lien & The Daydream Club.

While individual artist consultancy will remain as a key service, the shift to ‘one-to-many’ online training solutions is intended to allow Major Labl to help support a greater number of unsigned and self-released musicians.

Meet Your Teacher

Mark Knight is the founder of Major Labl and the Right Chord Music Group. For the last 22 years, Mark has provided strategic marketing consultancy for brands including Coca-Cola, Vodafone and Nivea. Mark set up Major Labl in 2018 with the aim of bringing marketing best practices from the brand world to the band world.  He has provided strategic consultancy for indie labels including Earache Records (Buckcherry, Scarlet Rebels, The Temperance Movement & Travis Meadows), Trashmouth Records (Fat White Family, Maggie The Cat) and a host of independent artists. His work with The Daydream Club was recognised with a nomination for Best Digital Campaign at The Music Ally Awards (the only unsigned artist to be nominated). The band now have over 100m Spotify Streams as an independent artist.

“I wanted to create a music marketing consultancy specifically for unsigned artists, that understood their realities and was 100% on their side. Far too many artists have a horror story about being ripped off or scammed by companies purporting to be promoting their music. Major Labl wants to go above and beyond to rebuild that trust.” explains Mark

In 2017 Mark created and lead an audacious challenge to break an unsigned band in just 10 weeks without label or radio support. The project took Mark to the main stage of the Cannes Lions Festival to present the results. It succeeded! The band (Broken Witt Rebels) are now signed to Universal Music.

Speaking about Major Labl’s new online training course programme Mark Knight explains:

“Since the Pandemic, we have been spending increasing amounts of time running individual training sessions and workshops, so the move to formalise these sessions into a structured training programme feels like a logical next step. Now our training is open to all artists regardless of their geographic location. The training sessions are self-managed so artists can pick and choose when they complete them. They also have the option to watch back these sessions over again when they need a refresh.”

In this article RCM Founder, Mark Knight considers how escaping the day to day to reflect on the bigger picture can provide new direction and focus for bands and artists. It’s time to plan your band retreat.

The off-site annual planning meeting is a key fixture in the calendars of many big companies and brands. It’s a deliberate plan to step out of the day to day and look more holistically at the direction of travel. Is the business plan working, or even still relevant?  What and who needs to change in order to continue to grow as a business? Netflix famously did this, with their founders getting away each year to consider whether they were best placed to continue to lead an ever evolving company. This introspective assessment ultimately resulted in co-founder Patty McCord voluntarily leaving the company, recognising her skills were no longer in alignment with their focus.

Here at Right Chord Music we like to draw on learning from the brand world and consider how they can benefit the band and artist world. The art of reflection seems particularly poignant, there is a clear value in a band retreat.

Here are five reasons why getting away is so important for future growth of your band or artist career.

1. Shifting from defense back to attack

In our day-to-day lives it is easy to feel like we are running to stand still. As an unsigned musician it often feels like the to-do list is never-ending, especially if you are trying to balance music with a full-time job. This inevitably means the immediate focus is on defense. How can we avoid screwing up? How can we keep those plates spinning? The benefit of a getaway is it gives us a chance to step out of the day-to-day and consider the bigger picture. What is your plan of attack? Your long-term vision? And crucially what are you doing to get there?

2. Change of Scenery

Having a change of scenery is a proven way to drive fresh energy and forward momentum. It’s amazing how refreshed and reinvigorated you feel after a break from your daily routine. Party Houses, a website where you can rent houses for special events in the UK, is a great place to start. You can find your perfect location for a writing retreat, bonding session or strategy meeting. You could even use a house for an intimate acoustic show. They specialise in large group accommodation across the UK.

3. Increased productivity

In your day to day environment, your time can be constantly interrupted with emails, meetings, phone calls, messages, children and pets. But the deliberate act of getting away allows you to escape the hurly-burly of daily life. This allows you to increase your productivity and focus. As a musician this could mean the chance to write new material, look back through your previous notes, demos and sketches or could help you plan your next single, EP or album release.

4. Improved relationships

Spending quality, uninterrupted time with colleagues or band-mates can help forge bonds and strengthen relationships. There is nothing like a shared experience to cement a friendship and fuel future small talk. It’s also a chance to get back to remembering why you created a band in the first place, reconnecting with each other is important, especially if time together is often limited to rehearsals and practical conversations about logistics.

5. Improved understanding

Getting away also provides an opportunity to look at your current marketing and planning and critically review what is working, what isn’t working and how things could be improved. If you are looking for inspiration and stimulus to fuel a debate, check out our other marketing articles. Alternatively we recommend checking out or our sister agency Major Labl, they provide a range of services to help musicians critically review and optimise their website and social media presence. Remember if your music marketing is not resulting in more plays of your music, it’s not working.

It’s time to take a step back, get out into the sunshine, hop on a train, load up the van and come back stronger, with a clear plan.
