Salt & Pepper, Strawberries & Cream, Fish & Chips… over the years we’ve figured out that certain things just go together and life is often much better when it’s paired with something complimentary. Two Player Games by The Daydream Club is a light-hearted celebration of friendship.

The Daydream Club – Two Player Games

In recent years TDC have studiously built an enviable collection of music, easily suited for the purists, with serious themes, complex production and fastidious attention to detail. This contrasts with their new single ‘Two Player Games’ which honestly is just a lot of fun. It feels like the shackles are off, with its lo-fi acoustic, campfire, sing-a-long tone, simple arrangement and witty lyrics this release gives us a snap-shot into the more playful side of TDC members Adam & Paula Pickering.

“Two-Player Games notes how even the most mundane elements of life are improved when shared with someone special.”

The accompanying video doesn’t take itself too seriously either. Featuring Adam and his real-life childhood friend Nathan battling it out at ping pong dressed like 80’s tennis rejects.

This is the second single to feature on the duo’s new Song Stream project. Rather than working on an entire album, they are releasing songs as they write/record them. For more about Song Stream click here.

Today on RCM we bring you the exclusive first look at the music video for Firewalker, the new single from Nashville based singer-songwriter Shannon Labrie.

Shannon LaBrie

Shannon LaBrie – Firewalker

The video for Firewalker was directed by Roger Pistole, who LaBrie describes as “one of the most inventive, endearing and calming directors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He’s got a way of easiness about him when he’s behind a camera. I felt very comfortable being myself…in fact, that’s his one request.”

Despite the isolation of lockdown, ‘Firewalker’ is immediately arresting, we were gripped. That speaks volumes for the strength of lyrics, the charisma of LaBrie and Pistole’s art direction.

Introducing Shannon LaBrie

Shannon LaBrie is a Nashville based singer-songwriter whose music possesses a unique blend of Americana and Soul.  The songstress grew up on a farm in the “middle of nowhere” near Lincoln, Nebraska and attributes her career start to her Dad, who passed away when she was just thirteen. “He taught me my first guitar chords and the basic structure of a song. When he passed away, songwriting became my way of grieving and dealing with the pain.”

With over 900 shows under her belt across the United States, LaBrie has opened for artists ranging from Valerie June and ZZ Ward to Gabe Dixon and Robert Randolph.  Her song “She Got Soul” was recorded and released on Randolph’s Grammy-nominated album “Got Soul”.

LaBrie will be finishing her forthcoming full-length release as soon as musicians can get back to work in Nashville studios.

Hugo Samba – Wah

Hugo Samba grew up in the sun-drenched south of France, and you can almost feel the rays bursting out of this track. ‘If ‘sex-pop’ was a genre Hugo Samba would be the leading exponent. This is a summertime, seduction soundtrack! Wah’ fuses the blues with indie-electro and threatens to literally explode with a scorching, funky guitar solo.

Wah is the title track from his debut album of the same name, which is set for release in 6 weeks. Watch this space for more details.

The Daydream Club return with Heavy Hearted (For 2 Pianos), the second single from the duo’s latest Piano Project // Duets and we have the exclusive first look at the video.

Music For Breakups

Let’s face it we’ve all experienced break-ups or a deep sadness that’s all consuming. In those moments you want to hear music that expresses the true depth of your sadness while you look distantly out of the window at the rain. Heavy Hearted is that soundtrack.

You could view Heavy Hearted as an anti-Valentines anthem. It’s certainly something to help you work through the emotions, in the knowledge that you are not the only person to have felt like this, and certainly won’t be the last.

There is a wonderful atmosphere about this track, from the start it feels like a heavy mist hanging over the piano. With Heavy Hearted, The Daydream Club have perfectly encapsulated that moment when the weight of the world is resting on your shoulders.

Heavy Hearted – Out Today

Heavy Hearted is designed to be more than a soundtrack for the divided. Released today, it’s also intentionally designed to unite. The plan is simple, write music which allows two pianos to play together via the Sheet Music available on their website. But don’t worry, if you don’t have a musical mate, you can still enjoy performing the duet by playing alongside the band.

Heavy Hearted is the second track to be taken from The Daydream Club’s latest Piano Project // Duets. Listen to lead single Wolf Winter here.

Today on the RCM we are excited to bring you the exclusive first play of ‘Fancy Coils’ the new single from North London duo Curtsy & Cry.

Introducing Curtsy & Cry

Curtsy & Cry are an alt-rock two-piece, based in North London. They create an exciting hybrid blend of fuzz, psych and garage rock with biting lyrical delivery and indie grandeur. Imagine the Arctic Monkeys held hostage by Jack White, who wouldn’t want to see that?

Drawing on their shared love of artists like Ty Segall, The Dead Weather and The Wytches, Curtsy & Cry work to discover dark, vibrant and unexpected corners of rock’s musical landscape. 2020 will see Curtsy & Cry release two new tracks starting with ‘Fancy Coils’ and ‘Pigeon’ which is set for release on the 21st February.

Having played music together since their school days, drummer James Henderson and guitarist Mike Pickering have steadily evolved their sound, through a process of experimentation, creative risking and mutual understanding. Curtsy & Cry have headlined venues including Paper Dress Vintage, The George Tavern, The Horn and Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, developing a loyal following from the energy of their live shows.

Fancy Coils

The band’s new release ‘Fancy Coils’ is a sprawling rush of nervous energy and searing intensity. The lyrics nod to the turmoil of recent years offering a seething critique of those proud and self-serving individuals who, from the safety of their castles, watch the world decline. The artwork is created in response to this, by drummer James Henderson.

Lost Intimacy

I recently heard the theory that despite our hyper connected world, there is an intimacy deficit. Apparently the popularity of Podcasts can be explained by recognising the role they play in delivering in-ear intimacy.

This got me thinking about the role music plays in keeping us connected… Then an email arrived from The Daydream Club about their new single Wolf Winter and everything seemed to drop into place.

The Daydream Club – Wolf Winter

Back in 2005, in an isolated, internet-less house in the Swedish countryside, Adam from The Daydream Club was experiencing what locals were calling the Wolf Winter. (The worst winter they had seen in decades).

“It was incredibly lonely. Paula (his wife and partner in The Daydream Club) was miles away in England and we couldn’t just video call like you would today. We’ve never felt more separate from each other. In stark contrast to that, our lives now are so intertwined that it’s hard to imagine one without the other. That’s what we’ve aimed to capture in the piano duet.

It’s the closeness we were both longing for during that cold winter apart.” Wolf Winter is a hypnotic and intricate duet for two pianos. The intentionally interwoven melodies make it hard to know where one part begins and the other ends. This deliberate structure and honest back-story makes Wolf Winter a wonderfully unassuming anthem for intimacy.

So, this winter as the evenings get darker and the weather gets colder why not trying turning off your TV. Remind yourself how powerful music can be in connecting you to the important people in your lives.

Spotify Pre-Save

Wolf Winter by The Daydream Club is officially released this Friday, the 15th November. Follow this link and you can pre-save it to your Spotify or preferred music streaming service. In simple terms, this means the track will automatically appear in your collection on the day of release so you will always be the first to hear it.

If you want to play Wolf Winter or any other pieces by The Daydream Club you can purchase the sheet music from their on-line shop.

The sheet music for Wolf Winter by The Daydream Club will come in two parts, so pianists can learn one part and play along with the band or find a friend to play it with.

About The Daydream Club

The Daydream Club are a multi-genre, award winning husband and wife duo comprising of Adam and Paula Pickering, with one goal – to make music they’re proud of.

This approach has evidently served them well over the course of the bands history, as they have organically built a strong, loyal fan base without the luxury of traditional forms of financing, promotion or backing.

Still fiercely independent, the duo have forged their own path to success, amassing over 100m streams across Spotify and Apple Music.

Zaritza sends temperatures soaring with the video for her steamy, and seductive new single ‘Slot Machine’.

RCM Exclusive

We are delighted to have the exclusive first play of ‘Slot Machine’, the brand new video and single from Zaritza. Warning! you might need a cold shower after watching this.

Introducing Zaritza

Zaritza was born in a small village in Russia at the end of the Soviet era. As an only child, music was her constant companion and foil against the struggles of daily life.  From a young age Zaritza excelled at music both as a dancer and classical pianist. Her talents were quickly identified and she was fast-tracked under an intense curriculum for gifted musical students. She won numerous regional piano competitions and received awards and a stipend from the Russian government.

As a teenager, Zaritza began to write and record her own original pop songs. After graduating from high school, and ten years of musical training, Zaritza emigrated to the U.S. in pursuit of greater creative freedom, and the chance to develop her musical career.

Musical influences

Zaritza’s music reflects a life between two worlds, exploring themes of love, identity, alienation, dreams and disappointment. Her music echoes her own personal journey, from Russian roots, to life as an American. In 2016 she was invited to share the story of her journey on the TEDx Conference stage.

Zaritza Slot Machine

Zaritza’s debut, self-titled album release in 2017 fused pop with rock, but it was her choice of two cover versions (Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box and Radiohead’s Talk Show Host) that hinted at something more. This was an artist clearly looking beyond the confines of pop.

Zaritza’s new single Slot Machine heralds a new dawn, and this time the shackles are off. The soft pop-rock, has been replaced with a more contemporary electro pop sound. Zaritza is a woman who knows exactly what she wants, and exactly how to get it. The video’s highly charged, sensual themes explore female sexual confidence, desire and self-expression. This is not about the boy who gets the girl, it’s about the woman who gets the man and it’s on her terms! With “Slot Machine”, Zaritza aims to encourage and empower female sexual confidence. She says about Slot Machine…

“I believe it’s important for women to be comfortable in their own skin, to come out of their shell and feel empowered to express their sexuality, without being judged.” (Zaritza)

From calm beginnings the video explodes into life after 1 minute 30 seconds with the lyric ‘fuck me blind’ and after that, nothing is the same. The intensity builds from bedroom, to club, to spa where Zaritza, resplendent in a gold swimsuit boldly rides her sexual conquest, flinging her curled auburn locks behind her. Not since Kylie’s gold hot pants in Spinning Around has there been a more jubilant expression of female body confidence.

Slot Machine is a smart, sexy and seductive slice of electro pop. Devin Schiro’s racy, and provocative video perfectly underscores the themes of the track and provides the stage for Zaritza to showcase both her vocal range and her talent as a dancer. Her performance combines the poised expressiveness of ballet with the raw passion of modern dance.

Zaritza’s Guide to female sexual confidence

In support of the ‘Slot Machine’ single release Zaritza will be sharing her daily social media guide to female sexual confidence. Follow her on Instagram to learn more.

Zaritza EP

Slot Machine precedes a new EP which will continue to develop this new electro-pop sound, alongside a strong emphasis on video and dance performance, all that training was not wasted!

RCM Exclusive: Slyrydes return with their third single ‘Out Patience’ and quickly affirm their position as one of Ireland’s most exciting new bands.

There is something exciting happening in Ireland, first, we raved about Fontaines DC and now we bring you the exhilarating energy of Slyrydes from Galway. We’re delighted to announce we have the exclusive first play of their new video for the third single ‘Out Patience’.

Slyrydes – Out Patience

Out Patience by Slyrydes is an urgent, passionate, and blistering call to arms. This band demands your attention. Punk is back and it’s never sounded so exciting.

Introducing Slyrydes

Slyrydes formed in Galway in 2013 in response to the bland music they heard filling the radio airwaves. Inspired by their love of punk and new wave, they quickly won hearts and some high profile support slots with bands including Fight Like Apes, Palma Violets and PEACE.

The First Two Singles

In November of 2018 Slyrydes recorded their first single ‘Mental Health’ with Daniel Doherty (Fontaines DC,Vulpynes, Galants) at Darkland studios in Dublin. The single found its way to Nialler9 who installed the band as one of their top 8 emerging Irish bands, and deserved radio support followed from Today FM, 2FM, RTE Radio One and notably Radio X.

The band followed up with a second single ‘Point of View’ which was released in May and firmly established the band as an integral part of the new punk explosion.

Slyrydes New Music

In mid July Slyrydes returned to Daniel Doherty in Darklands to record their two new singles “Out Patience” and “Dangerous Animals” which will be out in August and September 2019 respectively.

Slyrydes are: Marc Raftery: Vocals, Mark Comer: Guitar, Fuz Reilly: Bass Guitar, Paul Clarke: Drums

Today on Right Chord Music, we have the video exclusive of ‘Blessed With a Curse’ from Taylor-Louise, a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Leamington Spa.

After featuring the single on Episode 258 of our Lost On Radio Podcast, today we return with the first play of the video.

Taylor-Louise was born in Germany, upon moving back to UK in 2004 she picked up her father’s guitar and taught herself to play.

She quickly learned that fitting in doesn’t create happiness, but accepting who you are does. This mantra has guided her image and her career ever since.

Taylor-Louise released her first EP Jealous Eyes in 2013 followed by her sophomore release Broken Reflection in 2017, along the way she’s picked up deserved support from BBC Introducing with an Artist of the Month feature.

‘Blessed With a Curse’ was released on March 8th and is available to stream on Spotify and all major platforms. The track is also featured on our Lost On Radio new music Spotify playlist.

Blessed With a Curse is a song about trusting in yourself and putting faith in others. The opening guitar sound hints at Blondie’s Atomic, and provides a hook that runs throughout the track. It’s a breathless up-beat slice of indie pop with a catchy sing-along refrain.

The dictionary definition of odd is “different to what is usual or expected”, and is said to mean ‘eccentric’, ‘unusual’, or ‘unconventional’.  It is with this definition in mind that we happily describe Liverpool’s Mr Ted as ‘quite odd’.  They are certainly different to what is usual or expected, and for that we are thankful.

Mr Ted – Muscle Milk

Mr Ted are a serious band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously.  It is hardly surprising that Mr. Bungle are listed as an influence, given the manic and slightly wacky nature of their music.  They are a band that is difficult to describe, let alone pigeonhole into any genre.  The band themselves say their music is ‘scrunge’; short for scouse grunge, which seems as apt a description as any.

In November last year, almost eight years after they performed their first gig, Mr Ted released their debut single, ‘Shame’.  Both that track and the new single ‘Muscle Milk’ are taken from their upcoming debut album El Dirty Sexy, which is due out in the Summer of 2019.  Both songs display Mr Ted’s fondness for melodic heavy music and entertainingly absurd lyrics.

‘Muscle Milk’ evokes comparisons to Faith No More, with a very deliberate nod to System of a Down in the bridge.  The song manages to be riff heavy without actually being ‘heavy’, as it is melody that really drives this song.  This combination gives it a post-grunge rock feel, and at times drawing an unlikely similarity to Australia’s Grinspoon (worth a listen to those who aren’t familiar).

In what could be the most unusual UK Dairy Council promotion ever, ‘Muscle Milk’ seems to be advocating the health benefits of Milk.  The words “Flex” and “Power” are shouted over the top of the introduction, whilst the main vocal begins with “it’s delicious but nutritious, full of protein”.  Backing vocals proudly sing “protein” throughout the track.  Given the tongue-in-cheek nature of the song, perhaps it is better aligned with the very entertaining British Milk Council Twitter account.

Despite the slightly comical nature to the lyrics, ‘Muscle Milk’ doesn’t feel like a joke song.  It has an aggressive waltz, with some big tough guitar riffs, the verses build tension, the chorus provides the release.  The bridge breaks the song down and leads into a big instrumental guitar solo and outro.  And just when you start feeling this is all getting very serious, the song ends with a scream, and a very scouse accent claiming  “Aaah, I fooked up!”

‘Muscle Milk’ is due for release on the 8th of February, and is being launched at Sound Basement, Liverpool.  For more information about Mr Ted check out their socials, Instagram, Twitter, and in particular Facebook, which has a very entertaining story about who ‘Mr Ted’ allegedly is.

Words Nicholas Cheek.
