Rising Neo-Soul singer-songwriter and Brit School graduate Millie Mountain returns with new single ‘Divine’, a collaboration with MOBO award-nominated artist Femi Temowo.

Millie Mountain / Femi Temowo – Divine

South Londoner Mountain has been writing songs since the age of 8 years old and has already been supported by radio stations including BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing and Jazz FM. Her live talent has also seen her support legends including Sister Sledge, UB40 and Soul II Soul.

Divine was recorded in March in Femi Temowo’s studio with an open mind and inspired by a demo recording saved to Millie’s phone. The result was a testament to Femi’s ability to understand the vision and the pair’s ability to throw themselves into the project.

Multi-instrumentalist and producer Femi Temowo has previously worked with artists including Amy Winehouse, The Roots and Soweto Kinch and proved to be an incredible foil and collaborator for Millie, sometimes frequencies just align!

The lyrics to Divine explore themes of self-love and recognise that to appreciate someone else’s love, you’ve got to have your own love first. Mountain wrote the track after a period of isolation when she was bed-bound and feeling lonely. She recalls thinking that the one thing that brought her comfort would be envisioning a time when she would feel the sun shining down on her, and she would be once again absorbed by rays of warmth and laughter. Mountain also drew on past encounters and remembered that Divine feeling of being both appreciated and seen by a partner.

“Divine truly delivers on its name; it’s an evocative piece of neo-soul that warms the heart and will inspire daydreams of better times.”
Divine also firmly cements Mountain’s position as an artist demanding of your ears. If this is your introduction to her music, take time to discover her back catalogue and tell a friend.

Chasing dreams can be exhausting. Anna Wolf releases her new single Prayers, a raw and honest portrait of faith, growth and self-reflection.

Anna Wolf – Prayers

Following the biographical ‘Dear Daddy‘, Prayers is the second single to emerge from Anna Wolf’s time spent at Johnny Cash’s – Cash Cabin Studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee, and there was clearly something very special in the water.

And before you start thinking this is some religious statement, Anna Wolf quickly counters: “This song and video are for everyone, believers, non-believers, spiritual
and religious alike. The point here is that happiness is always accompanied by love.

Prayers was actually inspired and shaped by the news that a dear friend had discovered he had cancer at the same time as his wife. Anna Wolf perfectly captures the feelings of confusion and heartbreak when such unexpected life events occur.

There is something about this track that had me recalling Funeral-era Arcade Fire, maybe it’s arrangement, the folksy instrumentation or the passion that pours from every note. Listen to the end, and it literally becomes a spiritual experience.

Few artists demonstrate the vulnerability and empathy that Anna Wolf exudes in her songwriting. Her superpower is her ability to turn thoughts and experiences into relatable anthems. Produced by Trey Call, Prayers is about questioning, learning and unlearning the growth that happens when we allow ourselves to be changed.

The accompanying music video was directed and edited by Anna Wolf and filmed by photographer and frequent collaborator Paul Harries (Slipknot, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance). The video cleverly combines AI-generated images with 8mm footage, providing a new storytelling format.

“Prayers is Anna Wolf at her very best, it’s personal, painful and positive in equal measure. It’s hard not to be moved by the passion in this song.”

Filmed against a natural backdrop, the video moves between scenes of running,
performing and quiet reflection. It includes childhood memories, archival clips from
previous videos and symbolic moments that explore ambition, guidance and
acceptance. Old performance footage appears as a mirror of success and its lessons

“When I was chasing dreams, I ended up exhausted,” says Anna. “Stepping back
from the dream has brought me a richer life, one free from the constant
disappointment of unmet expectations.

Anna calls “Prayers” her most personal and favourite video yet. “This was about
showing both the rawness and the hope. Using AI alongside real footage gave me a
way to connect past, present and future.”

Swiss Disco-Pop starlet Alessia returns with ‘The Thrill Of It’, the follow-up to her million+ streaming debut ‘Modern Disco Girl’.

Alessia – The Thrill Of It

Swiss-born Alessia started playing the piano at just 5 years old and went on to study both classical and jazz piano. In 2019, Alessia left her village in Switzerland for the bright lights of London. She graduated from BIMM Music College in 2022.

While her debut EP, Modern Disco Girl, was a retro, disco soundtrack to unadulterated fun, her new release, ‘The Thrill Of It’, provides a more nuanced view of life, considering the highs of love and freedom, as well as the inevitable downs and unpredictability that make life thrilling.

Each track on the EP considers a different emotional experience. The opening track, ‘Can’t Help Myself’, provides a natural segway from the fun disco pop of her debut. It’s a joyous earworm that explores the uncontrollable nature of attraction. It is immediately infectious. ‘Can’t Help Myself’ is full of defiance and determination. This is a coming-of-age song, from an artist who is boldly steering her own ship.

The EP’s title, ‘The Thrill Of It’, captures the feeling of diving headfirst into life whilst embracing the risks. The disco pop sound shifts to a stylish, electro pop groove that seems to usher in a new level of sonic maturity.

Track Three ‘Tunnel View’ offers a poignant counterpoint and moment of reflection. In an era of digital reliance and endless scrolling on dating apps, it’s a reminder to open your eyes to real-world connections.

‘Be Be Free’ is a dreamy, hazy reflection on Alessia’s feelings about her former life in Switzerland and her desire to be free from haunting memories. At the EP launch show, this track was transformed into a poignant sing-along anthem with Alessia playing a grand piano, another nod to her artist roots.

While ‘Tunnel View’ and ‘Be Be Free’ offer a moment of reflection, the final track ‘Shake ‘n Dance’ ushers the joyful, good times back with an unapologetic floor filler. With its Salsa groove, it’s hard not to rush the dance floor.

“The Thrill of It is a wonderfully crafted EP that provides a soundtrack for young love and life.”

During the making of the EP, Alessia worked with some top writing and production talent from across Europe, including Sweden’s Märta Grauers, Zarah Christenson and Antonio Cherry, Germany’s Charlie En Vogue, England’s Kushal Patel (Kushy Kush) and Jack Ducker, and Norway’s Emil Tveitå.

A new, yet familiar sound is explored expertly on In Athens’ debut single, ‘Or Anything’.

In Athens – ‘Or Anything’

In Athens boasts an array of musical backgrounds and emits a self-proclaimed unique sound. They stay true to this vision on ‘Or anything’. Mystic guitars blend with cascading drums and send us into a new realm. Everything about this sound is fresh and raw. In Athens have intentionally crafted this song to be different and new, and in doing so have opened the door to a new world.

The vocals are transcendent and glide across the track, in between and outside the hazy mesh of hypnotic sounds. The lyrics paint the picture of human existentialism and collide perfectly with the instrumentals to cascade the listener into a real-life lucid dream. Post the second chorus, the vocal riffs are majestic, and the guitar solos clash with the song in a way I can’t remember ever experiencing before. One final chorus closes the song and forces us further into the unknown.

’Or Anything’ by In Athens is so new and bold that I dare say music may have found a new path. Reminiscent of all the best alternative music of the past, but in its own lane completely. ‘Or Anything’ is their debut single from their upcoming EP ‘MIRRORISM’, and I, for one, cannot wait for more music from In Athens.

‘In Athens produce a debut single for the ages with ‘Or Anything’, a genre-bending anthem for the masses’

Alice Offley’s latest single transforms a series of bad experiences into a catchy summer shakedown

Alice Offley ‘ Don’t You Mess With Me

Exciting times are ahead for singer and bassist Alice Offley. In between stints playing with one of the original 80’s synth pop luminaries – Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey – and releasing little funk-pop nuggets that get your feet moving and put a smile on your face, she has been pulling together tracks for her self-produced debut album “Are You Dealing With A Snake?” due out soon.

Add to that a support slot on the forthcoming UK tour of another ’80s face and new music champion, BBC6 Music’s Tom Robinson – and it’s all “2-4-6-8 Motorway” for the rest of the summer, and you can positively hear her purring like the cat that got the cream!

And to put us in the mood for what’s to come, she has just released the second track to feature on her debut album. “Don’t You Mess With Me” is a kiss with a fist track, sending out a warning to a recent scammer that “Karma will come to disarm ya”.

Like the majority of Offley’s tracks, it’s frisky and fun! A soulful blend of Syreeta’s ‘Your Lips Are Sweet’ and John McCrae’s ‘Rock Your Baby,’ with a hint of George Michael’s ‘Faith’ era, gives the track its essence. In the accompanying video, she swings and sways in a monochrome dress and a pillbox veiled hat against a red background, looking every bit the party starter, but with a fiery streak: “I might seem sweet like candy/But don’t be deceived, I can be handy.” Obviously not just referring to her bass playing prowess!

“I personally think ‘Don’t You Mess With Me’ is my best song yet, and although it was born from a succession of bad experiences I had with some rather S***, unscrupulous people, I’m grateful I was able to create something positive from it.” [Alice Offley]

All the elements of Offley’s style are here: a tropical funky groove, sassy vocals and sleazy bass. There is also some layering of the vocals – spoken mixed with sung –  which gives the added effect that she is speaking directly to the swindlers, reprimanding them for their actions: “I don’t know how you sleep at night/Maybe you’re up? Maybe you’re down?/Counting the pounds you stole and the apologies that you owe.”

Clearly, Offley is reeling from her recent experiences and has a lot to vent, but such is her disposition and PMA that by channelling these into a song, she has applied her natural feel-good filter to it, so she can dance her cares away.

When Mount St. Helen burst onto the scene with their debut Pariahs in 2023, it was a genuine moment of excitement. Two years later, we have the second release, and the feeling is equally euphoric.

Introducing Mount St. Helen

Mount St Helen is the alias of Oxford-based multi-instrumentalist Aris Sabetai, who is joined in the live setting by Francesco Reni (Guitar), Joe Smith (Bass) and Ryan Taylor-Costin (Drums).

Sabetai began Mount St. Helen during Lockdown, blending his love of 90s guitar music with ethereal strings and pop sensibilities. His music draws on a range of influences including indie cinema, animation, poetry, culture, religion and even a fear of flying.

The music centres around themes of nostalgia, faithlessness and loser-dom.  The stark black and white aesthetic of Mount St. Helen helps make them feel significant from the outset and perfectly matches the music, which perfectly balances introversion with optimism and hope.

New Single ‘Helpless’

The new single ‘Helpless’ introduces a subtle shift in sound. They often say music is a product of its environment, and in this case, the inspiration is drawn from the Oxford sound of early 90s Shoegaze bands like Ride and Chapterhouse.

This sits in contrast to their debut Pariahs, which comfortably lived in a space of euphoric indie rock, with subtle nods to Coldplay in its use of strings.

Helpless is described as a meditation on ecstasy in the face of peril. Lyrically, it imagines what higher powers might think as they witness the chaos we create with global warming, religious war, and endless division.

Yet you might think that would sound bleak, the Shoegaze textures envelop the track with a cosy blanket of uplifting hope.

It’s a song about looking down but feeling up, dancing in the storm, seizing the day. The final section, inspired by antiphonal choral music, reconciles our forsakenness with an uplift of sound that aims to take off and become airborne. Helpless is thus ultimately a testament to life and the living.

Slyrydes finally release their debut album, and it has been well worth the wait.

Introducing Slyrydes

Slyrydes are a critically acclaimed post-punk band from Galway City, Co. Galway, Ireland. They met in a late-night bar where singer Rafto worked.

In 2013, they eventually began playing music together, and it quickly became something very real, with the passion from those late-night music debates naturally translating into a cohesive sound.

However, the path to their debut album has been anything but smooth. In one interview, Fuz from the band describes a journey of chaos and individual self-disruption with rehab, arrests and fighting threatening to knock them off-course. Thankfully, they eventually managed to knuckle down.

In 2019, Slyrydes released their debut single, which was immediately championed by Paul McCloone (The Undertones) on his nationwide radio show on Today FM.

A year later, they had released five singles into the world. Buzz and momentum was growing, and plans were brewing for some major live shows. Then COVID hit, and like so many artists at the time, the enforced hiatus threatened their very future.

Now, after years of personal growth and collective survival, Slyrydes have made it to the start, with the release of their debut album, What Happens If You Get Happy.

“From the beginning, we said we wanted to make important music, the kind that mattered to people,” says Eoin Reilly. “We really lived it. Now we are in a healthier place to put this music out and give it the platform it deserves”

Slyrydes – What Happens If You Get Happy

“This is a visceral, unflinching, and honest record that grabs you from the outset and refuses to let go.”

It feels fitting that the album opener is ‘Mental Health’, the release of this album might just be the ultimate cathartic therapy for a band that openly admits to struggling with various mental health issues and self-destructive tendencies.

We are very honest with our lyrics and music. We’d be taking the piss if we ignored how we felt and started singing about surfing or that paint by numbers person loves another person shit.” [Fuz]

The album continues with the former single, I Claim To Be Intelligent. You can almost feel the tension and personal anxiety building on this track, before it can no longer be contained.  The video remains one of the most visually powerful I can remember seeing since starting this blog.

Boy In The Debs Suit is a poignant and frantic search for a missing school graduate. The next three tracks, Procrastination Is A Fear Of Failure (PIAFOF), Ahern, and Stutter, are all previously unreleased tracks.

PIAFOF is another deeply personal track that hints at the mindset of a band that has frequently tetered on the brink. Ahern is a jittery, intense affair that tackles the essence of being Irish.

Ahern, meaning “descendant of Eachthighearna” is an Irish surname. Variants of the surname include Ahearn(e) and Hearn(e). There are 2718 people with the surname Ahern in Ireland, and 1404 people in the United Kingdom.

Long-term fans of the band will recall former singles, Dangerous Animals and Out Patience. Both sound as fresh and exciting as they did on first release. This is a band unafraid to explore the darker edges of modern life.

The lead single from the album is track 11 ‘Famous To Five Million’, a song about what comes after fleeting fame. Of the new tracks, this is an obvious standout moment.

“I hope you keep your head and still remember me. You’re famous to five million.”

The album ends with ‘Just For Show’, a powerful and direct reminder that suicide affects lives, and the deaths from suicide in Ireland should be treated as more than cold statistics.

What Happens If You Get Happy is a 12-track album forged in genuine fire. Six of its tracks have never been heard before. It’s a record that asks big questions but doesn’t flinch from the answers.

“We’ve bled for this record literally and figuratively,” Mark Raftery “It’s been a long road, but maybe we needed that time apart to figure out who we really are. This album is our story.” Mark Comer

With plans to bring their explosive live show back on the road, Slyrydes are ready to make the statement they always promised, and we can’t wait to see what comes next. This band remain important.

Chloë Wilson dives deep into emotional territory with her latest single, Broken Me. Years in the making, this track explores the raw vulnerability of first heartbreak, marking a defining moment in her artistic development.

Chloë Wilson – Broken Me

Originally from Milton Keynes, Chloë Wilson grew up surrounded by the sounds of Fleetwood Mac, Donna Summer, and Led Zeppelin. These early influences shaped her love for music, which she carried into weekend busking trips in London and performances across northern England, whether in pubs, on canal boats, or in small venues. Each experience has helped her build a grounded and honest approach to her craft.

Broken Me was written when Chloë Wilson was just 16. Over time, the song has evolved alongside her, undergoing numerous rewrites and recordings to reach the version she always envisioned. The track captures the emotional weight of heartbreak, echoing questions left unanswered and feelings often left unspoken.

When I was younger, I would always try to describe what I was trying to say without actually saying it, creating characters to pretend like their feelings weren’t my own. But with Broken Me, when I wrote it I was so desperate in a way with how I was feeling that I wanted it to come from me, and from the parts of my experience I typically wouldn’t vocalise.” –  said Chloë Wilson about the significance of the track.

Built around a stunning piano arrangement, Broken Me is carried by Chloë Wilson’s poignant vocal delivery, emotive, open, and intentionally unfiltered. The track is accompanied by a music video that adds further emotional texture to the experience.

“Broken Me is a direct and heartfelt expression, blending soul-baring lyrics with a rich, emotionally charged arrangement.”

Broken Me is the first of several upcoming releases leading up to Chloë Wilson’s debut EP, set to arrive on October 24, 2025. She will also perform live in Manchester on September 20, 2025, supporting Bets at The Rat & Pigeon.

Irish Indie/ Post Punk band Petrel soar on their searing debut single, Existing Condition.

Petrel – Existing Condition

Long-time readers of Right Chord Music will remember our love of the band Slyrydes. Petrel is the new side project of guitarist Eoin Reilly, and it’s immediately exciting.

Recorded in Dublin in the early half of 2025 and produced by Darragh Winters. Existing Condition is built around jagged guitar textures, busy basslines, pounding drums, and stark, poetic lyricism.

This is a wonderful introduction to Petrel and perfectly captures the band’s raw dynamic energy and obsession with light versus dark.

“Petrel have launched with something truly exciting, it’s a shot in the arm for incipid, middle-of-the-road music. This Dublin 4-piece has just raised the bar!

Introducing Petrel

Petrel offer a softer sound to Slyrydes and manages to expertly balance noise and melody. Fans of early post-punk and alternative indie will quickly find something to love here.

Petrel are a four-piece that formed this year, but each member brings years of firepower from deep within the Irish underground. Imagine four frontmen in one room.

Their name is drawn from the storm bird said to glide just above crashing waves. It’s a wonderful metaphor for their sound: Restless, intense and always moving forward. Petrel are instinctive, elemental, earnest, born out of both noise and necessity.

“Our main goal with this project was to truly be us, we went through a few lineup changes and different sounds until it felt right and real, it was never worth doing if it wasn’t going to sound real”

“We felt there are a lot of bands out right now that have a very similar voice. We didn’t want to blend in”

Meet the band

Vocals/guitar: Gerry Sheil, formerly of Scattered Ashes. Guitarist: Eoin Reilly fSlyrydes. Drummer Mosey: In Athens formerly of New Pope, and Rural Savage Bass: Ian McFarlane, Squarehead, Mick Pyro, Cruel Sister, and previously Kid Karate.

Clara Kay Confronts Emotional Fallout in Debut Single ‘On Purpose’.

Clara Kay – On Purpose

With On Purpose, singer-songwriter Clara Kay debuts with an intimate and emotionally layered song. It’s a track shaped by complex feelings and a deep desire for resolution.

Originally from Dallas, Texas and now based in Boston, Claire Hudson (who performs as Clara Kay) brings years of musical experience to her work. After fronting rock bands and quietly writing folk songs in the privacy of her bedroom, she’s developed a distinctive sound that bridges both worlds. Her music blends emotional honesty with sharp, thoughtful songwriting that feels both grounded and refined.

Clara Kay’s debut single arrives with the full weight of her storytelling ability, confronting a haunting question: how do you grieve someone who hurt you while still carrying the burden of self-blame? On Purpose explores this emotional terrain by tracing the aftermath of a toxic relationship. The song unfolds in vivid stages, beginning with isolation and silence, shifting into raw, unfiltered anger, and eventually reaching a fragile sense of hope that perhaps the fault doesn’t lie entirely within. It’s both a plea for closure and a declaration of self-worth.

Carried by Clara Kay’s soft, expressive vocals, On Purpose weaves delicate acoustic guitar with dramatic, modern production. The track gradually builds into an emotionally rich soundscape, capturing the weight and tension of its subject with striking clarity and depth.

“On Purpose is a compelling blend of lyrical depth and polished production, delivering a euphoric listening experience that’s both emotionally charged and sonically rich.”

In terms of production, On Purpose was mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Ariel Borujow and mastered by Ian Stewart, adding a professional edge to its emotional depth. The track is accompanied by a visually striking music video, co-directed by Clara Kay and Asher Thomas. Set against the backdrop of a surreal Western showdown, the video reflects the song’s core tension, with shifting roles of villain and victim that echo the internal conflict explored in the lyrics.
